I just happened across the picture. I don't know any other details.
What stories? Some of the guys I drive with are Rennlisters and if I was throwing down BS I would get called on it for sure. The nut behind the wheel is the weak point sometimes. I know it is in my car even considering the pushrod 4 in the trunk. It is the weak link in some better cars too. Late 911 or 951 passes a 912. Well Duh. You expect that. 912 passes a late 911 or other faster car. That is "man bites dog" and it happens from time to time no Herbie movie majick involved. = drovers, no contest. No such thing as = drovers now is there?

I got a good one for you. I passed the Yager 962 at VIR in my 912. Yes, that one. A pure Porsche factory beast. We were all on an early in the run lap and the drover of the 962 was having a tough time of it due to some mechanical glich. A couple of us went by him on the short straight before the climbing esses. (he had to use a blinker to give the required point by. I have the feeling that was not a common activity for him) 2 laps later a blur went by me on the back straight that was the right color for the 962 but I can't be sure if it was him as my eyes did not focus fast enough to zoom in as it went by. Point by? 2 He11 with that. Best I could do was duck and not get sucked in behind him like litter.

Its all for fun but its not all BS.

But still, you passed a 962!!!! Focus on that, not that a blur that you think was a 962 went by you later. Nice, very nice job of driving. To bad you don't have a picture or an in car video of it.

I came across a 912 on craigslist that had me go back to my Bible (Excellence was Expected) only to learn that the 912 was 200 lbs lighter than a same year 911 (I think they referenced 1967)!

200lbs.. enough to change the weight distro from the 911's 41f/59r to be 45f/55 rear.. hmmm.. Modern F1 cars run about a 45f/55r ratio. Add in the ability to plug in almost any pre 1989 911 mod (suspension wise) and well, how can it not be fun!

All I know, and Kurt reminds me of it on the track, is that 912s can be made into excellent handling cars but you need to pedal as fast as you can to have a chance of keeping ahead of "newer" cars.

Since my budget doesn't allow me to keep up with my ego ( ) maybe a nice 4 cyl (912, or another 914) is what I will get again. Then I can harass all these new cars with a "little 4cyl"

Go with the 914!!!!! I am still a 914 guy, sorry! I would treat the gas in a 914/912 like an on/off switch. You are either on the floor or not at all. Above all NO BRAKES!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Word. I got 3.5 years out of a set of PF 97s and there was still meat on them when I pitched them. stock 914s and 912s handle well and better than same year stock 911 for sure but there is no way I can keep up with a late car that is driven as it should be.

My video cam was sitting on the work bench in the trailer. I was prepping it when my group was called up and rather than rush it left it for the next run. Don't think that did not cross my mind at the time.

Luck is preparation and opportunity.

Racer you should have been at the DE on the SC last weekend. The 912 was in its element, the weather great, the motor running good, and the tires fair.

assuming that it is type 4 powered, id say it probably handles very well. i have a slightly lowered 74 super beetle that had a 2 liter engine, and before i blew the motor up it would handle pretty darn well. the car seemed like it would tip over before it would slide. my other bug though with torsion front suspension would understeer like crazy.
