personally i like the vintage look -it gives it character, and you can do period body changes to give it a more agressive look.

then again this all depends on what you call agressive. do you want it to look like a 930? do you want it to look like a slant nose or n 80s carrera? you can put flares tails and body kits to make it look like a later car, but imho looks really bad on early cars. if you want a later car buy a later car. by the time you put all the money and work into it to give it a later look, you should have just bought the real thing. that and the vintage cars with the update body kits on them make them look foolish -like little kids bodies with muscles like arnold schwartzenneger.. everythings out of propertion. ESPECIALLY when you add fender flares to a short wheel base 912 (65-68). long wheel base ones (ones made in 69) dont quite look as bad (end rant there)

however, im by no means a purist. im a big fan of the r gruppe cars. you can give it an RS look, you could make it look like a 911R (which i like) or even better a 911ST. these include some fender flares, different bumpers, and a few other tricks -and still look period correct!

here are some links to some pics of cars with the r-gruppe look. note.. not cheep. all about light weight high performance vintage cars.

here are some pics on the early 911s registry with some stock, and some great rgruppe 911s mixed in

heres is a pic of an rgruppe 911st clone '

honestly..alot of flares and stuff are over kill. you dont need a body kit to make it look agressive for example, here is a 69 912, with original paint color tangerine orange, but its lowered quite a bit, and wearing fuchs. to me, this is the sexiest and most agressive looking 912 i have ever seen, and it has an all original body -no kit, and it is fast too! (and it is for sale! too bad its in canada and i dont have money for a second 12 )

That orange car is gorgeous! I'm seriously tempted to get a 912 in the UK as I love the classic look and I have all the speed that I want from my 993. I just have to work on my wife a bit...

Cheers,

David

yeah, but i posted it to prove my point -you dont need to modify the body with a kit to make it agressive

Harry,

That is a lovely car. Unfortunately, I'm thinking a few years ahead... Given also that my wife wrote off our other car I have more pressing needs sorting out a replacement - one with four doors before you ask!

Regards,

David

PS I agree with Harry that you don't need to do a lot to the 911/912 to make it look mean. A lot of the car's attitude comes from how low it is and how well the wheels fill out the wheel arches. My old 3.2 Sport was slightly lowered and ran turbo rims and it looked mean as hell.

By the way, the ST clone belongs to my friend here in Austin, Jamie Novak. He did all the work himself from a couple wrecked 911s. The hood is fiberglass, as are the front fenders and the rear deck. Rear windows are plastic and the center fill tank he did himself too. Check out the custom super deep Fuchs on the rear. The car is well under 2000 lbs wet, handles like its on rails, and is almost scarie fast. He made his own sport exhaust and man you should hear it roar. This is the car I was tailing when I put mine into the wall on lime creek road... now you know why he made the corner and I didn't!
