Post 930 vs. Z06

Hi All:
Any ideas, thoughts, or first hand experiences on how our 930's power compares to the new Vette 409 claimed hp Z06? I looked at one the other day and a) was disappointed with the fit and finish quality and b) they wouldn't let me test drive it unless I came back with my tax return (for proof of income). Needless to say, I didn't go back and I think I'd be less frustrated if I were sure our cars are still superior.

I was at the track with one in May.

Car was way fast.

The straight line acceleration was where the performance gain was noticed the most. Our turbo lag gives the Z06 too much time to chew up alot of ground.

My 930 (with mods) has no trouble passing Z06s in a straight line... In the corners too but that requires some work.

Yeah it seems kinda ridiculous. He claims 750 hp. Don't know if this is at the rear wheels, but who'd care.

I seriously doubt a "road race" suspension and radials on a Vette are gonna go 9's in the quarter, maybe drag radials or slicks, but without a roll cage they won't even let him on the track. Besides 750 hp is the lower limit for a car of that weight to run in the 9's. More likely it's a high 10 second car which doesn't make it any less impressive since I'm sure it's not "drag optimized" A 10 second car on the street is a whole lotta fun though.

A stock 996 Twin Turbo has trouble keeping up with a stock Z06 on the track. A stock 930 has no prayer.

I've created a monster....
I guess my real question was "How does one of our moderately improved 930's (exhaust updates, 1 bar boost, fuel enrichment, k-27, etc) compare with the new Z06? It seems like a lot of us are making an honest 390+ bhp and with a 930 weighing something like 500 lbs less than the new vette the performance should be somewhat comparable. Sorry for getting so many backs arched on the site...

I like the Z06 and I'm glad Chevy is building a machine like that, but a slightly modified 80's 930 should be able to wipe it on the highway. I was able to beat a Lingenfelter 383 Corvette on the highway with my '86 turbo back when all it had was a 1-bar spring and a Borla muffler. The Z06 isnt the target---the Viper is!

After owning a Ligenfelter C4 Corvette prior to my 930, I can tell you that it is perhaps one of the easiest cars to drive fast and I suspect the C5 is leaps beyond my old C4. It is well balanced and you can drift it at will. The brakes however, suck so bad because they just feel mushy. I would not be surprised if a Z06 could take a 930 around a track just given the fact that it has an abundance of torque right where the 930 is waiting for boost. I find the 911/930 just a very challenging car to drive fast.
