k-27-7200 rebuild
Hello, I going to have my k-27-7200 turbocharger rebuilt. Should I get a regular rebuild or is there any other mods I can do to to give me a little more ommph? Any Advise will be greatly appreciated.

Ken;
You can increase the size of the compressor wheel, a marine K27 has a larger compressor wheel (forgot application) if you increase the compressor size your turbo will have the ability to make more air, or volume of air. The turbos rpm curve will decrease a little. More air = more horsepower if your other components are up to the task. You can always create a K29 hybrid, but things really change in the lag vs usable horsepower. As it is right now your K27 has a 76mm or 3.00" compressor wheel.

my total cost with a standard rebuild will be about $650. My thoughts are that the 7200's series are good for about 450 hp. I plan on keeping the cis injection. I wanted to see if I can get the turbo to spool up even faster while keeping me in the 450 range. My future plans when funds permit it are b&b headers, light weight flywheel, electronic boost control. I currently have c2 cam in it bigger intercooler, 1 bar boost spring and I just install a b&b muffler w/dual 4" outlets (MY NEIGHBOR REALLY LOVE ME NOW )

Ken.....I have an '87 930 with a B&B headers and 3" single tip exhaust. Though I like the sound, it does not seem to be quite "there" yet. Do you like the sound of the 4" dual tip? Also, what modifications did you need to make to the underside [right side] where the exhaust extrudes? Thanks

Hi louis, The Dual 4" exhaust is kind of loud. If you plan on changing to a dual 4" exhaust I recommend that you listen to one first. Installation was not a problem, the only thing you will have to do is trim off some of the metal off the right side of the rear valence.

Though I'm getting off the original topic......what did you use to "trim" the valence to allow for the exhaust tip? Do you trim the same amount as on the opposite side?
I am thinking of doing it myself, since it does not appear to be that complicated. Any problem I may likely encounter.{I just replaced the alternator. Though not complicated, resource info from other PO's certainly helped. As for the sound, I heard one on Friday, dual tip 3"......wonderful!!! Thanks.

Ken,
Watch out for rebuild and turbos. To many rebuilders used under sized bearings and undersized carriers. This equals low life of the rebuilt turbo. A quality rebuild will cost 600 usally if done right. Also be aware of to good to be true prices.
Best,
Stephen
