Default This is a good buy if legit

1979 Porsche 930 Turbo on ebay - N O T - M I N E

Sought after '79 with Low mileage

eBay item number: 121195606288

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Porsche-930-...US_Cars_Trucks

If the mileage is correct and can be verified .... if this car is truly as described, then the "Buy it Now" is not a bad deal.

Someone should jump on that button after doing "Due Diligence"

Just my opinion !

Happy to help if potential buyer wishes.........

Hey Phil,

'79 was a transition year for the headlight squirts; The early '79 had the old style "Thumbs" and the flat squirts were slowly phased in sometime in mid-year production. As you know, the flat squrts then continued all the way to '89.

The VIN # of this car (9309800546) puts it almost dead in the middle of the '79 production run 9309800001 - 9309801200 so this car could've gone either way and based on what I've seen with other Porsche model production like 1965-66 solex/weber change-over, there could be several VIN higher than this car #546 that could very likely have the old style "Thumb" squirters ......... the factory was funny like that.

Although I have NOT seen this car in person, based on photos and description, I don't think that it has any issues.

Agree with the baron, a really nice example of a late '79.

Nice looking '79 930 from the pictures and if the car shows as well it's likely well priced.
I have seen the "snorkel type" headlight washers at least up to the mid-700 production cars. Those on this car have been replaced. Also, there are other incorrect items for an early '79.
Take a good look at the body to determine if you think the mileage is correct. One thing I see is a lot of wear under the deck lid.
Even so, still think the price may be fair, but if someone is looking for a truly original '79 930, I think 930’s like Mang's '79 should be getting more serious consideration by now.

This vin number is 2 away from mine with the same build month. From what I have seen the larger headlight washers changed to the smaller ones around the cars with vin into the 700's. As was discussed previously there were other changes that happened on later build dates as well.

My '79, #742 came with flush mount headlight squirters. The red '79 shown here looks well sorted. The Peter Gregg style boost **** (Dampf rad) is a nice touch from Garretson, however I can't see exactly how the auto heater controls are present. The exhaust shown in one of the pics is the European ( and '80+ up 930/ 911 turbo) style. If this was a USA delivery (non grey) car then it is missing the thermal reactor style HB's and USA exhaust. But the ad claims Huntington Beach, CA. Delivery. Not a big deal, unless you are re-registering in CA., you will need a fresh smog inspection cert. to bring along to Dmv upon registration. This exhaust system was superior to the Thermal style...but the "Non-catalyst" door jamb sticker will make most smog stations call in a referee.
Out of California sale should be an easier smog. Tax and reg. fees here in Ca. approx. $9 to $10k on this one, so I am not a taker for my fleet.

Is this a typo...... are you actually telling me that it can cost up to $10k to register this 35 year old car in the Peoples Republic of Cally ?

Please tell me that this is a typo !

9.75% sales tax+ Dmv registration.
When I bought my '79 ,in '79 my registration Fees with Dmv were $4,500.
That was based on the dealer invoice sales price at $45k. That was pre Gubernator Arnold "Friendly Dmv" . Cali Dmv Fees have always been based on the value of the car, not how many Driven axles (etc.)
like some other states. And todays Cali Dmv is smart in valuing used car sales, and this being a dealer invoices sale....no wiggle room for a California buyer. I doubt if this 930 hammers for less than $60k.
Whomever Cali resident may purchase this one, will need this dealer to install the thermal reactor exhaust on the car, at the point of sale.
Exemption: if it is in fact a d.o.t. Certified grey car.
CARB does not look kindly on Cali. Dealers that don't follow compliance.
Yes Chuck...no typo !

^+1!!! Ouch it is!

I am trying to buy a car in California right now and the dealer told me that the only way to avoid the 9+% CA sales tax would be to have it shipped by an official shipper (w/bill of lading) to my home state!!!!! I was trying to pick it up in CA and enjoy it for a couple of days before I shipped it to the flatlands...

Jeebus, those fees are ridiculous! Here, all I have to do is pay the $10 transfer fee and that's it. No tax, no nothing, unless registration is due.

Is it anyone else's opinion that these folks are not using the proper locations for a 4-pt lift?

Doesn't it appear this car is a bit precariously perched?

Igooz, Obviously that dealer doesn't want to sell you a car because I bought one in SoCal in April and the dealer merely FedEx'd me the paperwork for me to have notorized in my state which I then FedEx'd back.

Dealer was then able to show DMV of CA the proof of out of state sale with tracking numbers & Notarized docs from my state. I then flew in, picked up my ride in Costa Mesa, pounded the hell out of it for three days in the Targa California and flew home. Done !
