Post Ltd slip rear diff noise

My differential seems to cause the car to make a shuddering/buffeting noise when I'm moving slowly and making tight turns (parking lots, etc). Is this a sign to replace the tranny fluid? Is swepco good for the 930 tranny?

LSD diffs need GL-5 lubricant, or they are noisy as described. kendall makes an additive to be used with GL-5 for LSD diffs.

Your hearing limited slip "chatter". Like John mentioned, you need a GL5 lube that has a limited slip additive/friction modifier. Swepco 201 has the additive as does some of the Red Line products and others.

Yes, SWEPCO 201 gear oil is GL-5 rated. I use 201 in my '79 930 transmission and in my G-50 transmission . One of the listers wrote that he was having a problem with his G-50 tranny not shifting correctly when it would get hot at a DE , he was using a name brand synthetic at the time, but switched to 201 and cured the problem . We are also using 201 in the new Shelby Series 1 , it has a stiff shifting problem with the modified ZF transmissions in those cars.

Thanks. I'll swap it out in the next few weeks. Any idea if having incorrect fluid in for 10K miles will do any damage to the diff?

As long as it's a GL-5 rated gear oil you should be fine, and if your really concerned about your tranny don't put it under a lot of stress until you get the best oil in it.

Which Weight of Swepco 201 should be used in my 930 transmission?

I do not drive it on the street much any more, mostly on the track.

Looks like there is an 80w90 and 80w140 weight.

Which one for me?

Also, if I drain my tranny, how much will it take to refill it? I've heard to fill it until it is just at the point of flowing out of the fill hole? Correct? But will that be more than a gallon? Or should I order 2 gallons to be safe?

Thanks,

Brian

fill it until it comes out the fill hole. One gallon will be enough.

Use the 80W-90 and you'll be just fine.

BTW, if you have a stubborn LSD, GM & Ford both make an excellent LSD additive in a small bottle that can be added to the transmission to eliminate LSD plate chatter. Its really super stuff.
