Default 79 930 turbo

Just purchased this today! Seems like it will be a great car and a good addition to my others! Am having some work done to the car and am debating which wheels to keep on the car.

It has these HRE wheels on it but the prior owner gave me the original wheels as well. I am leaning towards putting the original wheels back on it but do you think it will look good given the car is slightly lowered?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated -- thanks again!

Sanjay

agreed! The original wheels are as much an icon as the whaletail. Classic Porsche turbo! Embrace it!

Adding aftermarket rims in an attempt to "update" a car like that has always been ridiculously pathetic. If a guy wants a newer looking car, sell it & buy one. Remember back in the '80's when everyone was adding aftermarket junk to their 60's & 70's muscle cars? Finally the collectors realized that the cars are best appreciated in their "period" look, when they were true kings of the road! Same thing applies here.

Fuchs! Keep Your Icon Original! Here's a picture of my '79 to let you know how great a set of original Fuchs would look on your ‘79. You picked a GREAT Year. Go over to this link at the Ferrari Chat to see what others are saying about the 1979 930;

BTW is that a Non-Sunroof Coupe?

Thanks everyone for the notes -- really appreciate it! I think its going to be a great car. I decided to go with the experts and keep the original wheels on the car -- I am going to get them refurbished first before putting them on. Its a sunroof coupe actually although its hard to tell from that angle!

This pictures of your cars are great! I currently have it in the shop and am having some of the items that came up in the PPI taken care of -- overall plan is to get it in great shape and enjoy it! I look forward to staying in touch as progress is made on the car!

Take care in the meantime,
Sanjay

I have to go against the grain, those HREs look much better than the boring factory Fuchs. The HRE wheel is a far superior (built) wheel as well being a custom fitment and 3-piece. If you had the HRE centers powder coated in graphite or gun metal it would looks great. My Fuchs look great in the box on the garage shelf.

I wish I can get a set of the Kinesis Supercups! I think those look good, too!

Just stunning!!! Welcome to the "club"..! As for wheels - I have 16" fuchs, which are nice - but, I'm looking at 17" Fiske and 18" RH - but really haven't decided?? Anyway - simply beautiful!!!!

Congrats!!

The Fuchs are nice but very limited on tire selection. I would have no problem with a proper set of 17 or 18 forged aftermarkets. Champion and HRE are among the best.

Ruf wheels are nice but heavy and cast.
