Default Wheels

Hey guys,

Finally got my 88 turbo, totally in love with the car. The one thing that I do need to replace though is the wheels. Where to you guys go find aftermarket wheels/rims? The spacing on the 930 is 5x130 right? but what offset do I need? not many places seem to have any idea about my car whatsoever, kind of disheartening.

You ought to check out the 17" Fuchs from Lindsey racing.

I have no affiliation with them but their wheels are impressive.

Default Wheels

Thanks for the link, I like the fuchs look wheel but want to go with something different. My dads 1980 sc has the fuchs and they look great. I'd like to run something in 17-18 thats a little more modern. What do I need to look for for front and rear offset. I was going to go with an 8 inch wide front wheel and 10 inch back. Could i run a 9 inch wide up front or?

Thanks,
Mike

With the right offset, you could run a 9'' wheel up front. A three piece wheel will make it easier to do.

I have 3 sets of 3 piece wheels currently apart. They are 18" and can make 8, 8.5, 9" fronts and 10, 11, 11.5 rears. I just sent you a PM. Jim

Take a look at what Wheel Enhancement has to offer. They're a shop in Los Angeles that specializes in wheels just for Porsches, and sell a wide variety: Fikse, HRE, Work, etc. On their website there are pictures of customer cars with wheels, too. CCW is a company that makes and sells custom-sized wheels, directly. Other decent custom wheel manufacturers are Kodiak, Forgeline, Ruf. Call the manufacturers/distributors , directly. A bunch of guys like RH Wheels, as they make a beautiful replica of the Turbo 3.6 wheel from 1994 in proper offsets. Lindsey and Zuffenhaus sell Fuchs replicas. I know I'm missing a couple manufacturers off the top of my head. Be prepared to spend about $2500-4000 for a set of 4 wheels (sans tires). Off the top of my head, stock offsets are something like 18/24. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. If I'm wrong, it's only by a couple mm. Like A930Rocket said, you can run 9/11 with the proper offsets.

Yeah I was looking at some hre wheels, they are gorgeous but run 1500 a wheel. I dont mind spending 2-3k but 6 grand for rims just boggles my mind. I like the deep dish style, but have not found many alternatives to the hre's.

Go with the Zuffenhaus 17" fuchs, they're super light and very, very cool.

For deep dish, I really like the 3.6 Turbo wheels. Possibly the best-looking wheel out there, including the Fuchs. RH Wheels makes a replica. Maybe not OEM authentic (which were made by Speedline), but original Speedlines will run about $4500-6000 when you can find them. RH replicas are somewhere in the $3500-4000 range, and are made with proper offsets (so no huge spacers required) and with a deeper dish than the OEM wheels. GMP Performance had a couple sets of reconditioned RH replicas for sale for less than $2500 awhile back, IIRC.

BBS wheels in my mind are the best. I think the LM wheels are the setup for your car....strong light and perfect fitment. If not I would get orginal Fuch wheels...they look period correct and are strong and light...aslo if you dont do a BBS wheel it looks like your trying to hard on an older car to make it more modern..if that makes sense

+1 Lindsey Wheels; IMO The wheels that look best on a 930 are those that are period correct (in appearance) Fuchs, RUF, BBS. The 3.6 Turbo wheels and God forgive 'em the Turbo Twists just look SO WRONG on a 930. Unless you are building a track monster with obligatory suspension & brake mods... 9" wheels are too much wheel and tire package for the front of a 930. The same 'look' (i.e. stuffed fender) can be acheived with proper offset 8's and perhaps some spacers. Quicker and lighter steering with 8's create a more nimble feel to the car, especially at 'in city' traffic speeds. Remember no power steering on a 930...

Welcome - we demand to see pics!!! If you like the fikse style wheel I have a set of 17x10 fm 10's for sale. I have switched to 11 inch wheels to the rear on my car . They have yokohama avs sport tires size 275-40-17 on them now with around 8000 mls. The passenger side wheel has a small scratch on the lip and a small gouge in the sidewall see pics. Otherwise the wheels and tires are in perfect condition 1 1/2 years old. I will include the front tires also size 235-45-17 with the same miles in good condition. I still need my front wheels though. I would like to see $1600.00 for all. PM me if you would like or anyone else who would like them!!!
