I had the conversion done to my 79 last year. I can’t tell you how happy I am with the car now. The power curve is much more smoother on boost and more power off boost. While driving around town off boost the car has a good amount of pick up that was non-existent before. The car starts every time unlike before. The extra hp that was gained was not a bad thing either. ?

I did take a little while to have it installed. My car was the first to have the conversion done with the stock intake manifold so there were some small challenges that had to be worked out. I also had a lot of other things done to the car, which took some time. Feel free to PM me is you have any other questions.

I highly recommend Stephen and the whole gang at IA.

Thanks,*Was going to ask you about your cold weather performance but see you are in AZ...LOL*Did you play around with any of the software as far as plugging it in to your laptop? Obviously to look at some running parameters not to actually change any settings. Do you have a electronic boost controller?Drew

Based on some old pictures I once saw of Stephen Kasper (Imagine Auto) out in the snow covered parking lot of his shop, with a laptop sitting on his knees, I think he really tries to provide an accurate tune for the engine. I think if I had shipped him my car for one of his EFI conversions, I'd be pretty reluctant to mess with it once it was delivered to me...

Andrew,

I had the car in Chicago last winter so I can comment on cold weather performance. It did take a few seconds longer to start up than it does here in Chicago. Other than that there is really no difference. I will say I do miss the cold Chicago air for the extra hp (makes a huge difference).

I have not plugged the car into my laptop. Like Sand man says I don't really want to mess with it. I might have it dynoed to make sure everything is good here in the AZ heat. I do have a boost controller and run the car at .8 bar. (91 octane and 100+ temp sucks)

Dr Drew, we have met a few times before in birmingham when I still lived there. I have the slate grey 3.6, and am a friend of Tom Schick's. My car is at IA, been there longer than anyone would like, but I still think it will be worth it in the end. We are 99% done, but the last 1% is a real pain for all in involved. I will shoot you a PM when I drive it. I hope you are doing well.

Yeah, I remember.... new heads with the expensive sodium valves!! I love that car and wondered what happened to it. If you ever want to sell that car you give me a call. Definitely let me know how your EFI turns out...

I'd love to hear from anyone with this conversion, your experiences and time involved, along with how easy it is to tune, any input would be great
Merry Xmas

Jonathan: been off line for about three weeks. Like i had said in a few old posts, the time involved on my EFI conversion was over the top, but not fairly understandable given a few unforseen supply problems. The duration was not due to lack of effort. My car took about a year longer than expected, yep, a year. In total, it took about 18 months. I will not cast stones, but there are board supporters that I feel should be "outed" for lack of professionalism, and IA sucked it up for both of them and took the heat with from me, in spades.
Now the good news: the conversion is simply awesome. I have had the car out on the road a bunch, and its not only fast as hell, its extremely smooth, responsive, and has much more low end grunt. I certainly did more than the EFI, but I think the $$ spent maxing out CIS, and just do the EFI upfront. Live and learn. I am not one to post much of a boast, but i took a green Murcialogo (spelling??) from about 40MPH to the top of 4th gear twice a month or so back. I had a solid 6-8 cars on him, pissed him off big time, and he was a sore looser to boot. My next mod will be a 6 speed.

See if you can beat these "Doug Levin Motorsports" twin turbo Murcielagos 700-950rwhp (my next car)
