Default Not Your Average Odyssey Battery + Rennline Mount Install - Pics

I decided to do a little fun weekend project. I bought the Odyssey 680 battery and Rennline Mounts - about $200 for all. Then I proceeded to die grind the Rennline mounts down (they appear to have a coating on their brushed finish) and then I polished them to a mirror finish.

Polishing aluminum is long HARD and dirty work! WoW!

But the end results speak for themselves, you could shave in the polished finish. Nothing wrong with a little show and go!

I also painted the factory metal bracket at the same time.

The Interstate (truck looking) battery I pulled out of the car weighed a mighty 42lbs! The Odyssey 680 is 14.5lbs and another 1.5lbs for the Rennline Mounts.

This is how the Rennline mount (brushed finish) looks when you buy it:
You can see I have started removing the coating and die grinding and prepping the aluminum:

After polishing the dirt look on the metal, is actually an Oak tree in the background:

Notice Summit racing print reflection:

Mocked up:

Installed, sorry these pics are not very good, but it looks pretty good and you can actually get your 13mm open wrench in there now to access the terminals:

Nice install. Polishing aluminum is a complete pain... How do you like the battery so far? Any starting issues, etc?

Nice job 'rusty! That battery is on my short list of future mods/upgrades. Unfortunately I still have lot's of life in the OEM Porsche battery that's big enough to power the Queen Elizabeth II.

Notice any unfavorable handling? Might only be recognizable by the track guys. I've heard that the suspension characteristics can change by losing the magnum sized battery.

Do you happen to have a link for the Rennline mounts, did you get those at Summit Racing?

Do you feel comfortable that this battery has enough cranking power?

Rennline mounts are avaialble here:
http://rennline.com/product.php/sid/...che/prodid/105

Rennline will also sell you an Odyssey PC680 battery but its cheaper by $30 from Summit Racing you will also need the automotive terminals which are $12 or so extra from Summit and Rennline DO NOT sell these and the GM auto terminals DO NO work...ask me how I know!
