Question Oil Stop Leak Additive?

Has anyone ever tried using an oil additive for drying up oil leaks? My 930 has about 50K since rebuild and is leaking a little more all the time. I saw a Bar's Stop Leak product at the local parts place and wonder if it would do anything or possibly cause problems. The product claims to stop most oil leaks. I normally don't have any confidence in additives. Thanks for any and all thoughts.

Yes, it would probably stop those pesky camshaft spray bar leaks!

Don't ever use any additives that claim to reduce friction or reduce leaks. They will do more harm than good.

I'd have to agree with Dave on this one...run away from that stuff or anything similar! Fix it right or suffer with the leaks until you can. Can you be more specific on the source of your leak? Post a picture or two?

I concur with your thoughts, but you never know when a new technology will come along. The worst of the leak appears to be coming from the crankcase halves on the flywheel end. Need to pull it and open it up and do it right. I don't think it is the seal as I have had the engine out for a new clutch and the seal appeared to be ok. The problem is when you go into the engine it gets expensive fast. But will live with it for now. Thanks for the support.

hhhhmmmm, lots of places for leaks in these beasts. Have you had a look at the oil light sensor which sits on the top of the engine between cylinders three and six? You have to remove some stuff (intercooler, airbox, etc.) to reach it, but it's notorious for leaking and often times resembles a main-seal leak beacuse of the way oil the runs down. You really have to reach/lean into the engine bay, but it can be done...don't even have to be an acrabat or tumbler!

I should also point out, that I usually reach in and around from the passenger side. Additionally, I have found that many leaks start from up above and work down...although there cetainly are plenty that start from the bottom (rocker shafts, cam boxes, valve covers, etc.)!

I have checked the oil sending unit, all was OK. I have what I call normal seeping of oil from the rest of the engine, stained but not wet or dripping.
