Any ideas for unusual ECU inputs/outputs?

Default Any ideas for unusual ECU inputs/outputs?

I'm finalizing my Motec M600 harness. I originally had ideas for traction control sensors, A/C control, and gear position, but I've pretty much abandoned these. Now besides the standard inputs/outputs to control the ignition and fuel, I'm planning to have just boost control for the wastegate, boost adjustment **** on the dash, and a hidden valet RPM limiting switch.

Just playing with the M600 software, it looks like it can do almost anything. Before I button up the harness, does anyone have any ideas I may not have thought of?

Geoffrey, do you see any need for me to wire for a second Lamda sensor?

How about individual EGTs, knock sensor, switch to support for multiple tunes (not just boost limiting), and data logging sensors (steering angle, shock travel, wheel speed, etc.)

Shift light, check engine light, EGT, O2, elect fan for oil cooler.

For boost, I have a .3 bar spring in the TIAL and the frequency valve set to open either at .8 or 1 bar, depending on the .pcl file uploaded. No need for a **** in the car.

Valet switch - great idea and works perfect.

C'mon guys. A valet switch? No valet is even getting within door-dinging range of my car, let alone given the keys. You wouldn't really let a valet drive your car, would you? That's what the SUV is for.

My first job, when I was 15, was at a car wash where the attendants, such as I, had to drive every car. I *know* how those cars got driven. That's why I've hand-washed every car I've ever owned...

Yep - valet switch. I engage it when I leave the car, say in a parking lot. If its stolen, it won't get there very fast going 1500 rpm or less. I don't do valets anyway, but since the switch is available, why not use it.

The new version 3 software provides some additional functionality and reserves some channels for specific functions. We can chat about it if you like.

Good ideas guys, keep them coming.

The valet switch would be for security when parking and in case I have to leave it a shop for something.

I'd also like to have a switch to limit the car to the lowest boost setting (0.6 spring) no matter what position the dashboard boost switch is on.

Thanks Geoffrey, I'll give you a call. I believe you said the M600 could do all of this last time we talked.

The Motec M400-M800 software is pretty amazing. I can't imagine anything it can't do.

Geoffery, does the Motec RPM rate of change traction control work?

In my car I have the traction control set to be based on 4 factors. I have defined how much wheel slip in terms of percentage between front and rear wheel speeds by RPM and by lateral g-force. I then have a dash mounted switch that will allow me to trim in more or less wheel slip based on how the car is reacting. I change this based on how much fuel is left in the tank to help balance the car more. This is also how I set it up in the DP car.

Thank you all for the help and extra thanks to Geoffrey for checking the final design. Time to start cutting wires

BTW, I won't be using every sensor and function listed on the drawing but I'm going to wire for them now.

Where do I get a aftermarked knock sensor to install on my 83 turbo engine? Would also need a instrument to know if it knock's.
Also need to know if its running lean...
Anny ideas on the best way to go about this?

You can use J&S Knockguard as a standalone knock sensing device.
