Face it, if you're producing 500HP at 4000RPM at 1 bar or .8 bar, you're stressing the engine the same amount. You're producing the same amount of energy with heat and mechanical stresses as a by-product. DonE mentioned it earlier. The stock compression engines will take 1.1 bar easily, if the engine is twin-plugged, fuel ratio is adjusted properly and timing is correctly set. I ran 1.1 bar on my 3.3l twin plugged engine for years. No, it's not a track car. I recently split the case on an 80K mile engine and found the rod/main journals in beautiful shape. The Nika-Sil bores still showing crosshatch.
For Pete's sake stop flaming Steve. If you not willing ot listen to both sides of the discussion, you don't belong. He's given more to this board than all of us combined!

I'd appreciate not hijacking this discussion.

Back to the build:

Bottom end is complete. Heads will be finished today. I am completely finished with the injection portion, and just about finished with the exhaust. Kevin is hard at work on the turbo - here is the section that needs replacment/attention due to 'FOD damage':

My car ran on standard (euro) CIS with a 1bar spring for a year, not tracked but driven hard, without any issues! The timing was backed off a little and I had no problems at all, and it was putting out over 450fwbhp.
I think it's unfair to drag someone’s name through the mud when not all the facts are available, couldn't Snowboarders car have been running on crap fuel or something?

If you want to discuss another's engine, start another discussion.

Track use puts hellacious strains on a turbocharged air cooled engine.......all the stars had better be aligned and ALL things correct:

Fuel choice
Timing
Fuel quantity
Fuel balance between cylinders

Something needs to be made absolutely clear:

In my case, there is NO EVIDENCE OF A NEGLECTFUL BUILD PROCESS in the Gamroth engine build. The more that is learned with the build, the lesser the 'evidence' of any 'wrongdoing'. I'm moving on with pics and description of the build.

Wish I could say the same!

Hey Steve Weiner:

Don't worry about these guys. There's no telling what was done to the engines after they left your shop. For all we know could've been bad fuel, or simply somebody trying to get out cheap with 87 or 91 octane.

I see the guys from Ray Evernham's engine shop (about 1 mile from my house) all the time in the local cafe, they show me busted pistons all the time, and I'd definitely say they qualify as professionals. You never know what's gonna happen.

Keep your head up Steve!

Brian

That picture should be a poster for what you definately don't want to see, when you tear apart a turbocharger.. It is smoked!! Extreme heat from the turbine side thru the compressor side bearings.

Ya know.....if I were an engine builder, I'd go so far as to offer *zero* warranty on a turbocharged engine. Too many variables, too much risk out of the builders' control.

Engine won't be done anytime soon.

The surprises on the 32 hour engine since previous build (& in rebuild again) just keep coming.

What ho? Camshaft is funkyfied? Cams have been sent out, didn't get a pic of them. Look what happened to the rockers as a result - big a$$ flat spots:

Never missed a valve adjustment.

Hey, the machine shop made the heads look pretty:

Do I laugh....do I cry......am I a sadist, am I pissed in general, or do I just enjoy the experience? Ridin' the rollercoa$ter of money.
It's getting REALLY OLD.
