Default Well Finally Lowered The Car + Got The New Sneakers On! Pics

I made my mind up...kicked my heels in and 6hours later car was lowered, of course the rear was the tricky part but having the angle finder and being careful with the splines on the torsion bars and using only one turn on the inner, got me to where I wanted to be - just over 1 inch lower - car looks great and the stance is exactly where I was hoping ti would be. Next is the alignment and tint the windows.

Big thanks to my best friend Paul for helping..without him the project would have taken FOREVER!

Wheels are HRE 545 with the centers painted Guards Red (as the car) and the rear are 17x10.5 and the front 17x8.5
Rear Tires: Yokohama ES100 275/40
Front Tires: Yokohama ES100 235/45

Well without further-a-do here are the pics:

Before - all stock:

After today's fiddling:

I took these pics as the sun was setting so the car looks "less-red" more maroon - still playing with the digital camera and lighting.

Enjoy!
Yasin

Yasin,

Care looks great. Keep up the good work. BTW, is there a particular reason you chose 17" rims over 18"?

Looks great!!! You think youll get any rubbing in the back? How much clearance is there?

<contemplating lowering mine after looking at these pics!>

From what I have been able to discern over time is that 18 inch wheels have not been kind to the 930. There seems to be a problem with the handling when 18 inch wheels are used. I have read that the owners have testified that the handling changes so much that the whole car must be re-calibrated to be driveable. And even then the wheel scrub must be delt with. Can looks dictate such a radical change? It looks like we are becoming like the rice rockets. Looks above all!
Love your car but treat it like a living thing and don't force it through hoops that it was never designed to go through.

I think some cars can get away with 18s some cant. I tend to like 930s with 17s but I think it depends on the rim. I think tire sidewalls are beautiful. Sometimes too thin looks too contrived?

That looks rather low, you might find on hard rights that the front left will rub on the windscreen washer hose that runs from the fuel filler flap to the washer tank. It does look nice though.

Thanks all for the replies and awesome comments and feedback - much much appreciated

I will say this....HRE makes some VERY light wheels and I have to say that the Fuchs are considerably lighter, so there is alot to say for the lightness and strength of the Fuchs wheels.

Also for those going to lower their car..it is not bad at all, pulling out the torsion bars, greasing them up and moving them one spline is something that can be easily done at home. Adjusting the trailing arm only gives you about 2degrees of adjustment or approx 15mm, so its worthwhile to pull out the torsion bars and re-indexing them.

Believe it or not, pulling the black sticker fender guards and cleaning off the old glue and carefully sticking on the new guards took just as long as pulling off the torsion bars.

Also my bushings were in excellent condition so that was good news too.

Once again thanks to all for the positive feedback. DonDavis you making me split here...LOL!

I am getting a tiny bit of rubbing in front on the right side, which I will have to investigate...it is just a smidge. Other than that absolutely no rubbing at all, not even in the rear or any of the fender lips.

I did want to go to 18" because of the extra weight and the changes in handling charateristics as rudy mentioned. Plus the extra $$$$ - yowza! I think 17s are the perfect compromise and I am not a fan of these huge wheels that people run on their cars now-a-days!

Best regards - Yasin

Yasin, those are some of the nicest looking wheels I've seen on a 930. Well done.

I went with the exact same wheel and tire size for all the reasons you decribed - looks, weight, $$$.

Yasin,
Your car looks great! I agree with you about 17 v 18 inch wheels. I'm not a fan of the real small sidewall tires. How will you adjust the front wheel scrub problem? I need to put some tires on a set of 17 cup wheels I bought and was wondering what to do if they scrubed.

Maxx - Thanks buddy!!! Speaking of which...how did you make out this weekend with your engine drop? Excited to hear how it went?

Rudy - a few gentle passes with this and all will be fine...emphasis on "gentle"..as the rubbing is very very small..and only happens on a full left turn

Default Beautiful car Y...

...I love those wheels as well, I'm looking into wheel/tire combos now. Since I have a narrow body, turbo motored car, I think I'm a little more limited on width. Also, I hate to lose the look of the silver anniversary Fuchs in silver.

Why is there no one making Fuchs knock-off rims in 17" and 18" sizes?

Coyote - I actually love those silver 16" Fuchs on your car! Anyhooo....Lindsey Racing makes an extremely beautiful 17" three piece Fuchs wheel - custom widths too. Simply stunning.

Do a Google search or a search on Pelican.

I believe HRE makes a knockoff on any width/offset too.

I've had 265's on the rear of my 3.2, no problem.
The 235's on the front only rubbed on the inside on full lock after I rolled the inside of the arches.
