Default 930T vs 996TT

Last night on the way home around 12:30am, it was on. I was coming back from the movies with my fiance and this guy in a black on black 996TT pulls up besides me at a redlight, no traffic at all, he revs and hammers it, I did nothing. Next light I pull up beside him and he put's down his wife/girls window, ask me if I thought I could hang. I told him I was getting off on the next exit (around 100 yards up the street), if he liked he could drive beside me (it's a 2 lane ramp) until we hit the top and we can see if "I can hang with him". We got on top of the ramp at around 40mph, I was still in 1st gear and we hammered it, I shifted to 2nd around 50mph and my turbo spooled like a mother and it was on. I pulled on him really hard and probably had 4-5 cars on him to 110mph and that's when I let off of it. He did the complimentary honk and thumbs up and had a major grin on his face.

Good times

"Think you can hang?" Yeah, we will hang you about 4-5 cars behind - NICE! Had to be tough on the ego with the girlfriend / wife in the car.

It was funny, I don't know if his car was stock or not, but anyone can tell from the way my 930 sounds that it is anything but stock. I was pulling hard when I let off of it, it would have been alot worse IMO.

He was cool though, he gave the honk and thumbs up along with the grin on his face.

Christian, i had a similar ish experiance with a (tuned) 996 GT2 a few months ago, we were pulling up a slip road onto the M1 here in the UK, we were both doing around 80mph as we came off the roundabout, i changed into 3rd, foot flat on the loud pedal up to around 130mph as we joined the motorway, he was about 3/4 of a car length ahead, i changed into 4th but he just pulled gently away, by the time we were around 160-170mph he was a good 80-100 meters away, he slowed and wound his window down and mouthed "F£cking awesome" with his thumb up, i wish i had the extra 80 or so ftlb's of torque you've got and i'd of been in the same position!!!! Get out there and blow their bloody doors off!!

we've posted briefly before, it's got 964 cams with a 965 intercooler with re-circ, a custom ball race turbo and custom headers, modified injector blocks, ported heads, seventh injector, moded WUR, among other bits, the car is a handfull, mine is at 490bhp with 615nm (or 455ftlb??) at the flywheel, yours is somewhere in the region of 530 or so ftlb at the wheels!!!!! I HAVE to go EFI, i make mincemeat out of mates Tuscan, but to be captin Kirk i need that TOURQUE!!!!! Get your beast shiped over for Le Mans, you'd love mad friday!!

I think the guys with the 600, 700 or 800 horse 996TT /GT2's would agree. GT2 is only 470 hp or so at the crank stock. But hey, were all on the same side in this case
I'm waiting to hear about a 930 thats taken on a new Z06

It's nice to have a go though eh!! Mine's still got the stock wheels and muffler too so people think it's still around 300bhp, What would a 996TT cost to buy and mod up to 700-800bhp, if this year goes well with the business i might start thinking about a more modern porker, or should i stay away from water pumpers and get a late 993TT and mod the hell out of that?? Or should i just be happy with my almost 500bhp and get something totally different like a F355

I was telling one of my wrench buddies about my project and he said I'd be in a 996TT before too long. I said I didn't think so, but he was pretty adamant. I'm starting to think he may be right. BTW, he drives a super high hp 996TT. He said the aerodynamics of the 996 are so far superior to the 930 that you have to move up after you've done all you can with the 930.

On the other hand, I can't wait to spank other cars when/if my 500+hp 930 is complete.
