Default red 935 DP on ebay ending in 3 hours

a very unusual three day auction, you would think a seller would want a 10 day auction for such a incredible machine, but go figure somehow a new benz dealer got their hands on it...well just thought i would pass it along...someone is going to get a incredible ride an, amazing car...

If its the real deal and in good condition...price is excellent. Please let us know what it ultimately goes for.

Final gavel price $45,100.00

I think that's a deal...again, if its real, good PPI, paperwork, etc. etc.

The whole "3 day" auction is a worry...you need to get there to see it and all that.

I hope the guy ends up on the board here and tells us about it.

Yeah... all I know is that 38,000 miles was about the time my DP needed a pretty extensive engine rebuild... about $15k (previous owner, thankfully). Not that this one does, but I'd be interested in comparing relative maintenance histories with other DP owners.

That black DP is simply amazing...wow, much nicer than the red one! I am going to track it and see how it does.

I am VERY intrigued as to why these engines would need a rebuild at 38K??? That would scare me...

The black car is not a real 935 Dp, it is a U.S. model assembled here with DP parts. I believe all orginal DP's have to have the ZZZ in the vin # signifying european production where all the orginal DPs where made. I have seen many of these body conversions on standard 911s here in south Florida back in the 80's, some had Kremer on the sides.

I guess it depends on what a "real" DP is... according to the spec sheet that I got with mine, this is what makes a DP:

The new DP 935 type II is a further development of type I, that has been built successfully for 6 years. It resembles the racing car bodies designed and built by our company which enabled Klaus Ludwig to win the 24 Hours of Le Mans and the racing sports chanpionship in the same year.

Basic model is always the Porsche 911. It is of no importance, however, if a Porsche S-C, Carrera, Turbo, Targa or Convertible is being modified. The following major modifications measures turn a Porsche into a DP 935:

1 front spoiler with headlights, turn signals, glass covers and oil cooler grid
1 rear bumper with tail lights and license plate illumination
2 flat front fenders with grilles, wheel flares, and tank pit
2 rear side parts with brake ventilation and wheel flares
2 large doors sills with embedded logotype
1 trunk hood, oilcooler exhaust duct
1 rear spoiler with large grille, additional air lovers and improved loading air supply
2 outside rear view mirrors (Genuine racing type)
1 heavy duty oilcooler in the front of the car
2 rims in front, 9 inches, with 2 tires 225/50x15/P7
2 rims in the rear, 13 inches, with 2 tires 345/35x15/P7
4 spacers
1 front acle reinforcement bar
1 center console (various equipment options)
1 foot support
1 completely new suspension kit
2 stabilizers in front and in the rear
1 complete paint job with outside color striping
1 approval by state safety agency

Optional Equipment:

various interiors in leather and velours materials
various stereo equipment
consoles with different instrumentation
(mine has) performance improvements of the turbo engine up to 400 hp
(mine has) adjustable boost on turbo models
(mine has) large boost gauge
(mine has) aspirating engine with increased displacement and power
(mine has) special steel exhaust systems
targa or convertible version with turbo engine
aluminium roll bar with leather cover
(mine has) modified hi-performance front suspension
(mine has) shorter shifting distances
various sport seats
light weight bodies

Mine also has AC and a power sunroof.
It seems that they'll do the conversion to any car, ROW or otherwise. I think that as long as DP did the work, I'd consider it a DP. If the black car is just a bunch of DP parts that were put on by someone other than DP, I wouldn't consider it to be a DP, but at the same time, it'd be "close".

In case you're interested, I've been collecting DP info for the last few months... and have put together a PDF doc of some interesting docs that I received from a fellow RennLister...

Low res version (3MB) -- here

High res version (50MB) -- here

The attention to detail that DP shows in the pics and articles is incredible.

I would think that any car which has adjustable boost would be a candidate for a premature rebuild. If the car was primarily a city car (lots of idling / low speeds in hot conditions) but the driver occasionally put the boots to it by cranking up the boost this would seriously shorten engine life. These cars were hugely expensive when new and I would think that this is the kind of life they would have led. Lots of assumptions on my part but it would explain early engine rebuilds.

Makes sense... when I first took it for a serious run, mine was boosting to 1.4 bar. Scary. I've since had everything checked out (to make sure everything was reading properly, etc), and have set it at 1 bar. It also stays there.

The biggest problem with the boost adjustment is that you have no idea what setting your changing it to until you boost and see what the gauge says. That's why I put a sharpie dot on it and just leave it, and hope some nimrod doesn't play with it while it's at a show and shine or something.
