Default Bolt-on Garrett GT35R turbo for 911

We have just finished up with a bolt-on Garrett GT35R conversion for the 911 turbos. We adapted the GT35R turbo so that it is a direct bolt-on.The GT35R usually comes in a TO4S housing with a 4" inlet but we hade some TO4E housings machined to accept the GT35R compressor wheel. We also modified the turbine outlet so that it will bolt to your downpipe and muffler. We built a new oil drain sump and oil feed line to work with the GT series turbos. This upgrade works with Fabspeed, GHL and B&B headers and exhausts. Our project cars feels super strong and spool-up time is incredible. We expect to see over 400 at the wheels @ 1 bar with the stock CIS and intercooler! This turbo is good for alot more then that too. So if you want the baddest turbo available for your 911, give us a call

Hopefully you didn't restrict the line to the turbo?

What is the price going to be on the kit, and what exactly is included? I have run 35R's before, and they do make good jam (28#'s on a 4cyl = 521whp). And as stated above, you have no oil starvation problems, correct?

There is a procedure you can do to the bearings that will allow it to live in a 930. We do Garretts on our big builds but never restrict the line. Most kits I have seen restrict the oil line...bad in a air cooled turbo. Hopefully they have done something different to ensure longevity.

Rear wheels.

After we dyno it I will. The previous configuration (60-1 hi-fi) netted 360 at the wheels at 1 bar using 91 octane fuel.

We are running a 3-an oil line with no restictors.

We have seen 641 at the wheels out of the GT35R on an Evo8 running big boost:^) There is no oil starvation problems. The kit will be selling for $1700 which includes the turbo with modifications to make it a bolt-on, oil line and oil drain sump.

Tim, you are going to have problems with the ball bearing units without water cooling. On the 930's the high EGT will suck the life out of the rotating assy. A suggestion would be to offer a water cooling system for the turbo..

Kevin has a good point. I race a high HP GT2 that has Garret dual ball bearing turbos and I replace both turbos every 20 hours. They still seem to run fine, but they start dripping oil from the cold side which means the seals are starting to go which means the bearings will not be that much farther. So I proactively just put on new ones.

Norm,

How is the 4 channel ABS comming? I've now sourced all of the pieces and separated the ABS harness from the front harness and think I'm set on the connections. Let me know if you need some help.

Geoffrey,

Thanks. The wiring was the biggest part I was wondering about, so I am glad you've got that just about solved. When I get ready to actually do it I will definitely give you a call.

Have you checked the ratio of front to rear teeth wheels compared to the wheels and tires you will run - will you have to changed the teeth wheels ?

Will you also have to change to 4 channel wheel speed sensors or are you using the 4 that were on the car from the 3 channel setup ?

All ABS cars have 4 wheel speed sensors that go to the ABS brain. Your's has a 3 channel pump 2 front channels and 1 rear channel with a small Motronic main connector where the 4 channel has the 88pin Motronic connector and 4 seperate output channels. That is the biggest difference. I'll use the stock sensors and wiring to the 4 channel brain connector. You'll also need to source the Hammer port which I cut off of my old C2 harness and will splice into the new one.

Since I'm going to run the same size tires front and rear I'll run the 45 teeth ABS rings. It looks like you are running the taller 705 profile rear tires so you'll need to run the 45/48 tooth setup. The stock C2 front rings are 1 piece, the motorsport part is a two piece with a press on ABS ring which you can get in 45 or 48 teeth.

We have put ball-beairng turbos on 930's before without problems.Ofcourse these are predominately street cars..We have also put them on rotaries which have much higher EGTS then convenrtional piston engines without problems. On a track car it is a different story

We could build a watercooling system which would include a water resivoir,pump,lines,etc.... pretty easily though.
