What is 79 930 turbo signature addition?
#181
I removed the passenger-side knee pad on my 1979 930 – 930 980 1164. The production number is 1002205:
1 – 911/930
0 – Coupe
0 – 1980
2205 – Tub number
kas930's #1156, PTS production number is 1002197:
https://rennlist.com/forums/11216902-post165.html
I also realized that Dave’s letter from Olaf Lang included the production number for his car; 930 980 1200 - production number is 1002241.
https://rennlist.com/forums/10138144-post124.html
With three chassis numbers for reference, it appears that Porsche matched 50 chassis numbers with 50 set aside production numbers for the last 50 U.S. 930 Turbos. #1151 would have started the sequence at 1002192 and Dave’s #1200 would have completed the sequence at 1002241.
Here are the three data points:
930 980 1156 – 1002197
930 980 1164 – 1002205
930 980 1200 – 1002241
This was surprising as I suspected that the tub numbers would not be in sequence with the chassis numbers since Porsche was concurrently producing the RoW 1980 930, RoW 1980 911 SC Coupe and U.S. 1980 911 SC Coupe.
How does this explain the 12/79 VIN decal dates on 1115 and 1156? Several possibilities: 1) Reissued decals from Porsche; 2) Certain cars may have been held back at Porsche due to engine/transmission swaps, etc.; 3) Paint to Sample may have delayed the cars off the production line and they received later VIN decals.
Dave’s 1979 930, #1200 is the last 10-digit ‘930’ chassis number and has the last tub number assigned for the 1979 Turbo.
1 – 911/930
0 – Coupe
0 – 1980
2205 – Tub number

Does the August '80 certificate mean the car was delivered to the 1st owner at that time? I know Dealers wanted big premiums at the time. I am assuming the car was probably delivered to the Dealer sometime around the January '80 time frame.
As a side note, the site listing this car has some very nice looking additional 930's from 1986 to 1989.

FWIW, my neighbor here in town now owns '79 930 VIN 930 980 1185 with the 11/79 build date. Very raucous car indeed. I am trying to help him get the doc on the engine build that one of the previous auction sites stated had $130k worth of mod's. I can believe that after looking at it and listening to it. He is verrry inexperienced with these cars so I keep my fingers crossed every time he drives it; Fortunately he has 2 other P cars for daily driving.
Has anyone seen any documents re the build sheets on this? I haven't checked with Robin Reddy yet however.

The certificate and dash plaque for #1189 were posted by "reed" but no color was listed. Can you provide the exterior/interior color for #1189?
The only person I've seen with a build sheet on their 930 is Magnus Walker when he visited the Porsche archives dept w/r/t his '76 #0015 (Total 911 article). He mentioned in the article that when un-rolled the build sheet was 6 feet long.

Hello Sloane !
Hello Larry !
Hello Keith !
It's Ian here - I've kidnapped Dad's member capabilities to chime in on this mystically-sleuth and exciting thread of y'all's "SIGNATURE FIFTY"
Keith: FANTASTICALLY-WONDERFUL WORK DONE TO YOUR #1156 - WHOOOAAAWWW ! ! !
"Pearlescent" IS a PERFECT descriptor of your yellow-gold GEM of a 930 !
Larry: wish you still had #1086 - that blue REMAINS one of my all-time-favorite colors EVER applied to an automobile. It too has a gem-escentse !
And Sloane: what fanatic Porsche enthusiast could NOT love the SWEET-BLOOD-ORANGE color of yours and the Jaegermeister 934 resting in the Stuttgart Museum (or, wherever in the world) Porsche AG is exhibiting it ?
I've just spent the whole late-night and all morning reading all 13 pages of this thread and all of its links about #1185 into Mecum @ Monterey, and the "no-sales" @ eBay before and after Mecum's sale of the car trying to help my father and my new neighbor track down the aftermarket engine build sheet for his recently acquired "Black-Beast" #1185 - I plan to report what I've learned to him later today.
IDART and LAST930: I can likely persuade my new neighbor to allow me to remove the passenger's knee panel to access that 7-digit production/tub number you and Keith have accessed to help the cause - I'll report back ASAP.
My neighbor will be VERY HAPPY at what I've uncovered for him - I'm sure he has no idea just how special his 930 is and will likely task me to track down the illusory Scarlet-Velveted Cert. of Ownership and dash plaque - I can only imagine what the current holder of those two items would ask for in return. I know I'd enshrine an original doc with His Majesty's signature on it
Stay-tuned, I'm signing out of this Ferry-tale for now...

The passenger knee pad is super easy to take off. Feel for the two nuts on the left & right and loosen with a 10mm socket (usually just hand tight). I was rewarded on my '75 Turbo when I found a Porsche factory paper label still attached on the inside on the black leather passenger knee pad.

Let me know how you go about tracking down the last 50 certificate and dash plaque; mine were both missing when I bought my car many years ago. At the time I did not realize the promotion done for the last 50 cars; had i known it then I might have put some work into tracking that stuff down. At this point I'd think the certif and plaque were probably tossed or sitting in an attic or basement somewhere. I don't even know where to begin.

welcome aboard. Thanks for the compliments on the car. Let me know when you guys get down this way again (petite maybe?). If you need any help with your neighbors car let me know. I know my way around them pretty good...
