What is 79 930 turbo signature addition?

Idart,
I've been in the middle of restoring 1156 and remembered your question about the body ID number stamped on the dash below the radio. I have verified that this stamp does indeed match the writings on both doors and the top of the dash, all indication 1002197 (it's a little hard to tell from the pic).
I also thought that I'd include a pic of the unique color of this PTS car.
Thanks
Keith

Another interesting tidbit about the black metallic ’79 930 in the 1984 Robb Report is that the ad listed a leather headliner. Although a black headliner was a no-cost option for U.S. 930’s in 1979 (code 469) a leather headliner was not available. However, in 1980, a leather roofliner in beige, dark blue, brown or black was an option for U.S. 911 SC’s. The Robb Report 930 could be “1 of 1” U.S. 1979 model year that was delivered with a two-tone light red/black interior and a black leather headliner. Image from the 1980 Porsche Audi Fact Book upholstery section.

Looking at he classified ad for this '79 930, the stainless steel headers could have been our MSDS brand, or the Enex brand built by Vern Covert. At that time in history the SS headers were just shorty replacements for the thermal reactors. Advertisement from 1979 Autoweek , still running mine since '79!

I realized that #1199 was not updated in the list. Perhaps the last 10 all had black paint? The U.S. dealer fact books mention that PTS required an extra 4-6 weeks additional production time and interior to sample an additional 10 weeks production time.

While cleaning my 930 today, I found a small red paper tag with no. 707 0557 ‘rot’ (translation - red) on the floorboard. It may have come loose from the inside of the center console as it’s a perfect match to the light red leather. Light red is a bit of a chameleon as it changes from red to more of an orange-red in sunlight.

1 – 911
0 – Coupe
5 – 1975
XXXX – tub production number (includes 911 tubs for that model year)
Your '79 breaks out like this:
1 – 911
0 – Coupe
0 – 1980
2197 – 1980 production number (includes 911 tubs)
For my 1979 930, even though my chassis number is after yours (1164 vs. 1156), I’m sure your build number is later than mine but I’ll verify and report back. It’s interesting that the production numbers on the U.S. late-‘79’s are 1980 model year but this makes sense. Based on your engine and transmission numbers, my guess is that your 1979 930 has the highest build number of any U.S. 1979 930 but we’ll need to verify more production tub numbers to be sure.

Rich,
The red tag you found actually reads "107 0557". The German style 1 digit can look very much like a 7 to us, they usually put a line through the middle on the actual 7 digits.
That numbers on the tag almost appear to be a body number, except your 930 is a 1979 so it should be 109 instead of 107. Plus your chassis number is 1164 so the body number would be significantly higher than 0557. Strange!

My '79 should be in this sequence:
1 – 911
0 – Coupe
0 – 1980
21XX – 1980 production number (includes 911 tubs)
I'll have to pull off the knee pad and verify but I'm sure my production number is not "107 0557". Did Porsche have a older spare light red center console in a parts bin they installed on my 930? Very interesting...

While looking at images of Baron’s ’79 930 Turbo, #1115 that sold last year, I noticed that the spare tire wheel has a very late production – 43/79 (Oct, 1979). Looking further, I also noticed the door jam has a Dec ’79 VIN decal date. We now have two documented U.S. 1979 930’s with Dec ’79 production dates with Baron’s being out of sequence to the last 50 (kas930’s #1156 being the other Dec '79). This lends credence that the dark blue PTS ’79 930 ordered by Al Holbert may also have a Dec ’79 VIN decal. Does anyone have any images of Al Holbert's 930 or its current whereabouts? Chuck, do you still have the transmission and engine numbers for #1115?

A 1984 issue of “Gmund” magazine featured one of the last 50 1979 930s for sale, a silver exterior & black interior 1979 Porsche 930. At the time, this 930 was unregistered with only 168 miles and may be 1166 or 1171. There were undoubtedly quite a few of the last 50 ‘79’s tucked away for investment with very few miles before the 930 was reintroduced to the U.S. market in 1986.
