What are the potential risks if the motor oil was overfilled by 1" above the full indicator and 1" below the fill indicator on the oil dip stick? Thanks.

Once the motor is fully warm up, the oil pressure gauge indicates 3 - 3.5 at idling speed and goes up to 5 when the engine rpm is 3000 or above. This reading does not seem to vary much whether the oil level is at full or at add level. Is this normal? Thanks.

Not quite so,......![Smilie](https://rennlist.com/forums/images/smilies/smile.gif)
Overfilling the oil tank by 1" on the dipstick really causes some major grief here.
Excessive oil temps and pressure variations all caused by foaming is what happens, and its better to run a quart or two low, rather than a quart or more too high. Further, if it IS overfilled, you fill the intake with oil and the engine will burn it. Oil burning in a 930 is NOT good since it really lowers the threshold of detonation; a very bad thing in these cars.
Never, ever believe that damned guage. Its nothing but a "red herring" and the dipstick is the "gospel".
Measure an accurate oil level with the dipstick with a hot engine after idling for 3 minutes, and on a flat surface. Then you really know where you are at and can make some corrections if necessary.

Hi Steve,
Thanks for the valuable tips. As I am relatively new and already fascinated with the 930 turbo charged engine and I am learning everyday so I would appreciate any technical tips.
Recently I took the car for an oil and filter change and afterward I drove the car until the engine was fully warm up then I noticed the oil level indicator stayed on top of the gauge regardless of the engine RPM as supposed to fluctuate according to the engine RPM range. I thought for a moment the oil level gauge stopped working, I stopped and checked the dip stick shown al least 1" over so I decided to go right back to the shop... and my mechanic had to manually pump out about 2-3 liters of oil via the oil filler hole and afterwards the oil level gauge is working again. I guess that was my first potential close call!

RC;
My heartfelt congratulations Sir. Good job on being "heads-up" on this and checking the hot oil level on the dipstick.
In my experiences, its tough to find competant, detail oriented, and honest people to perform maintenance and repair operations on Porsche cars,....there are SOOOOO many hackers.
I would read your owner's manual very very thoroughly,...there is a virtual wealth of information in there.
