Newbie In Need Of Help 72 911 Einmalig Conversion 86 aircooled with Idling Problems
Hello Fellow 911 Forum Member's;
"I'm in Need of Help desperately!" I own a 71 911 conversion to 964 body with a 78-79 3.0 sc engine. Conversion was done by Einmalig in Huntington Beach CA. I recently had the head gaskets repaired and now the car stalls and wont hold a constant idle. when first starting its a 1400 rpms and when I drive it a when I drive it a while I falls below 1000 and stalls, start up fine and stalls again and again.
I'm at a road block with this car, and in need of a referral to someone that help. my mechanic has had the car since May and cant seem to find out the problem.
Any suggestions ? any HELP out there. I'm Stressed to the MAX!!!!!!!
please feel free to call/ text me with a local mechanic to help at 914 -484-1741 in Cali.
Thanks in advance,
Ira
will attach engine and body pics.

I suspect it is running lean. Drop in to a local shop first and have them check the CO level in the exhaust gas. Your engine has the air pump removed so have them to adjust it to 2% on idle and try that. It's a simple adjustment with a 3mm allen key on the metering head, any bosch specialist will be able to do this for you.

First, what made you think the engine was in need of head "gasket" replacement? Any professional Porsche mechanic should know this, but a principle reason for running lean, of course, is a leak. Check the torque (18-ft-lb) on the intake manifolds and the tightness of everything else. Also, if you can find a local hobbyist willing to visit with the proper gauges, and knowledge, to check the warm-up regulator operation when you first start it, that is worth doing. Over the years, I have tried many ways to locate leaks, like spraying starting fluid at joints and listening for rpm changes, but have never found anything satisfactory. Do your best, and, as NineMeister suggests. get a CO meanurement.

Brian Farmer is the owner of Einmalig. You said he built your car. He has become a good friend of mine over the last few years. My thoughts are that if he built the engine he may know how to fix it. (Understatement). He is a USC grad and has been a Porsche guy his entire life. His shop and his friendship have been invaluable to me and the hobby I love.

Stopped by Einmalig today and asked Brian about this car. He said the car was built about 17 years ago at their old facility. At the time he had 5 such cars in the works. The other 4 cars were all built to be 993 replicas. The owner of this car specifically wanted to go to the 964 body style and wanted that engine put in the car. He said this was a super common mod for long hoods as they were super inexpensive and plentiful....Imagine that.

Wonder if it ever was fixed...

If he's in Yonkers - which is where the phone # backs to I'd have thought Rennwerke would have been an obvious first step.

The 3.0 litre is a solid solid engine. He has a simple cis issue
A knowledgable cis mechanic should fix that in a day
Never ever heard of a 3 with head gasket issues. Just broken studs.
