This is just a feeler as I try to make up my mind on a color for the repaint of my newly acquired '79 911 SC.
As it sits currently, from Zuff, the car Is Petrol Blue, on Cork interior and dash. However, as a result of being left outside for 3+ years, the paint is SHOT. This brings me to the point of this thread...
How rare is Petrol Blue in the eyes of some of the very seasoned Porsche Vets on this site? I never really gave the color a chance, because I never had a good representation of it to view with my eyes, which is why I began contemplating the 'Outlaw" treachery of having the car fully redone in Oak Green Metallic, that I also love. I don't think I will ever sell the car, so this wouldn't deter me.
I have been google'ing lots of pictures of Petrol Blue in its prime, and its really starting to grow on me.
As far as I know Petrol Blue was a fairly rare color that I believe came out in 1978 and was available for only a couple of years. The combination with a cork interior makes for a great combination in my opinion...I do miss that car.

Niceee, I hope to get the car up to LR and on the track some time! Driving it on a BMWCCA day in my E46 was fun, but I'm sure the 911 will be an absolute blast as well.
Thanks for the pic!
there are tables of how many cars were made in each color by year, somewhere but I do not have a link
off the top of my head Petrol was not used on early cars and is a later color (tho Porsche sometimes changed the name of a color w/o any or much change in the tone)
you can get test strips sprayed by your painter and then carry them around to sunny and cloudy spots to sit and contemplate what to go with - that's what I did on a color change

I have a Petrol Blue '79 930. I have seen one other car in the same color here in Dallas, a '79 SC. Love the color and get plenty of approving comments when she comes out of the garage for a drive.

What a beautiful and CLEAN car! However, this looks much lighter than Petrol Blue Metallic... I hate to even ask this, but are you sure??
It looks like Light Blue Metallic in the picture you posted.
