My first Porsche was a Petrol Blue 79 SC, wonderful color. Darker blue with some green in it, one the best late 70's colors. Don't see many Porsche's in that color.
I've seen a few petrol blues for sale over the past couple years but of course only a small fraction of the whites reds and blacks.
Not sure about that.. whites, reds, and blacks are very common.. Petrol not so much anymore.

Not sure what you mean by early cars? Petrol blue was introduced with the 78 model year.. and began to phase out with Carrera introduction in 84. In the early 80's it was very popular.

He means that he saw little Petrol Blues compared to the whites, reds and blacks.
Have any good pics of your 930??? Always good to see the paint how its supposed to look, gets me even more exited for the respray.
My car is a 78 930, the first 930 in Petrol blue as it is also the 2nd US 930 produced for 1978.
And no, it’s not stock.. the slantnose conversion was done for the original owner by Alan Johnson Racing using factory parts around the 83/84 timeline. The engine had minor upgrades by Powerhaus, and further modifications later by Andial. It’s not for everyone but I love it!!
WOW I love this color, I have yet to see any good pics of it in the shade like this. I also have Cork interior. It POPS with the Petrol. Very nice!
Side Note: What the hell kind of seats are those??
Thanks.. yes cork interior works well on Petrol blue and was one of Porsche's favorite offering during that period. People tired of it though and many cork interiors were tossed-out or dyed black,, when the paint got weak and dull as many did, a lot of people changed the color of these cars during the respray. So between this, and the number of them wrecked and parted-out over the years, you now see fewer and fewr petrol blue cars and even less of them with cork interior.
Seats are Recaro model C. They are electric, and covered in the factory cork leather.. back in the day they were $2k ea!! They're kinda heavy, but very comfortable. Wheel is factory Special Wishes 930S, I have two, one in cork for shows and the black one for driving.
I've had the car for many years, was lucky to find it.

I would repaint in original Petrol Blue - I think you would be silly to change colors and #1 devalue car and #2 add $3-4K to your paint job to pull doors/paint inside of engine compartment/front trunk/etc
Of course this is if you have the proper professional "windows out" repaint.
If you are on a budget even more reason to stick with Petrol Blue - Most good shops can get away with installing rope under front/rear window seals to lift them for paint.
Also good idea if budget paint job for you to dis-assemble things like door handles/hood crest/scripts/decklid grill/etc to save cash and get better overall job.
I had a 1979 911sc in Petrol Blue years ago.
