Default Antenna reception 87' 911

I just installed a Pioneer cd deck in my car. I get poor reception in the radio. What are my other alternatives to get better reception? Have people installed Hirsch Antennas?

Thanks,

Chuck,

Is the reception poor on both AM & FM bands? The antenna amplifier and the windshield connector on the later cars is very sensitive. Could you have bumped either so that they are not functioning properly? The tip would be if AM was a lot worse than FM.

Good luck!

Chuck,
This happens a lot when people change from the factory radio. The antenna is amplified, and it is powered by the factory radio. Most likelu you need to find the power wire to the antenna amplifier and hook that up to the new radios power antenna output.

If that's not the trouble, then you need to check if the problem is limited to AM or FM or both.

Yep.....When I upgraded the radio in my '87 3.2 I double checked to assure the antenna was securely plugged into the new unit. It worked great!!!

Good Luck

Fascinating! Glad I saw this, because, since replacing the factory unit with a new head unit, the reception has been really marginal, especially on AM. So, the idea is to hooh up the amplifier to the head unit?

You need to find the power wire for the antenna amplifier. It should be a thin (18 gauge) black wire. Just wire it into the same lead you use to power the head unit.
