How do I remove A/C Compressor and belt?
I loosened the nuts on the left, two in the front, one in the back. I can slide the unit to the left about a quarter inch but not quite enough to get the belt off. The A/C vent on the left of the unit limits my lateral shift space. Do I need to get that vent out first? Once I get the belt off are there different mounting bolts for the unit to remove or is it the same nuts loosened to shift the unit?
Thank you for any input or links. I tried searching for this topic.

There is a nut on the left for tension adjustment. Loosen that as well. There are 4 bolts holding the compressor if I remember correctly. If your removing it permanently take the condenser off the deck lid as well. I deleted my AC because it was pointless. Feel my car runs cooler now.

Thanks bhmkv. I am considering deleting.
For the time being I am going to leave it in. My main problem is I can't slide the unit far enough left to gain enough slack to remove the belt. Wondering if anyone has run into this.

Tension adjustment is on the right, near the oil filter.
But simplest is to just cut the belt. Not like you wouldn't use a new one if you ever wanted to reinstall.

I do however carry a knife in case my alternator belt ever breaks while I'm on the road. I can save 15 minute or more by just cutting the AC belt and getting straight to the alternator belt replacement without jacking with all the AC stuff. I figure I can do without AC until I get back to my garage.

That's true but he would still have to loosen the compressor to install a new belt. I remove the ones on the bottom plate as well if I recall then tilt the compressor to the left.

(Even if the OP didn't want to bother with the tensioning bolt, it would be plainly obvious once the whole blob is removed. Then, reinstalling with a new belt would be easy.)

On your SC, belt tension bolt and nut are on the left of the compressor's slider plate, adjacent to the engine cooling fan shroud.
Normally aspirated (non turbo) up through 1983.
Some turbo's and the later Carrera have the tensioner on the right.
Loosen the nut on the tensioner.
Remove the 2 bolts oo the front face of slider plate and one located
toward the RH rear of the of the compressor.
Lift compressor to the left toward the engine cooling fan shroud.

thanks all. I ended up taking all the bolts out instead of just loosening them and that allowed me just enough wiggle room to get the belt off. On to the valve covers! I'm looking at them and thinking there's no way I can get a feeler gauge down there especially to cylinders 3 and 6 without flying completely blind. Any advice on adjusting the far valves blind?
