gracias for all the positive vibes coming through...am looking forward to sprucing her up...i was told the interior is a linen color, the seats and door panels are quite nice,, they have been redone at some point in the not to distant past, but the carpet and door pockets that are covered with carpet, oy...! pretty sure i will do a whole carpet set replacement...does anyone have suggestions/pics of another color carpet that will bring some life to the interior...?even when the carpet is clean (i found a spot or 2 up under the dash the is clean) it looks dirty, or drab, lifeless...its like a cloudy day in there...i doubt i could find a burgundy/dark red to match...grey, black...or do i stay factory....decisions...lucky me, to have them to make...

Very nice car and a great color. I would recommend staying with the original interior color. First, it looks great and, second, it maintains the car's originality. That is important to many - maybe most. Of course, this is a personal decision. There is a long and detailed thread over on the Pelican tech forum that details a long list of projects ( with great pics) on a 84 Cabriolet. Good read. Take your time and enjoy the projects along with the drives.

I have grey carpets & linen in my 964 and the contrast look pretty good but a darker shade would look better. I think you can get wine/ruby colour carpets to match exterior, black or dark grey would look good too. As a reference look at cocoa mats pic 11 (red/wine) http://www.cocomats.com/porsche-gallery/
And to get an idea of the contrast as well as how dark grey would look with Linen check out the interior pics of this car;

Understand.
Looking at many pics out on the cybersea of 1984 Targas, you'll see most pics being reflective of the stock color Ruby Red. That code would be X7 V9. Yours looks to be the stock color.
Have a look at your codes, as they will tell the tale, indeed. BEAUTIFUL color, as it has less of that "reddish" tinge to it. Love it.
The other stock metallic red color was "Kiln Red". The 85's and 86's offered a "Garnet Red"..

Ed,..I ran across your thread on your Targa (from ~ 12 or so years ago).... interesting read. Looks like you had the 999 code, possibly something specific to the original owner's request, not even on Porsche's list at the time. Wouldn't think you'd see a lot of those out there....

What color did it end up actually being?
