Unhappy Help me change a lightbulb...

Yes. I need help changing a license plate light. I purchased a new one off of Pelican Parts and it arrived this weekend. I easily took the original broken bulb out, connected the new one and put it in place; ready to screw back in. But with the rubber part, it doesn't go back in evenly like the other side. I tried it again without the rubber part and it went in evenly. If the rubber piece doesn't serve a serious purpose, can I just leave it out and screw it back in? I'll post a pic in a second.

I'll be doing this project soon as well on my 911. I'm curious what feedback you get.

Try putting the rubber part in first then the light fixture. Alternate between the screws as you tighten them down. It may be best to apply some pressure with your thumb around the screws on the body of the fixture to snug it into place. The screws will hold it, but won't necessarily have the grip to pull it into place.

The outer plastic cap/lens really likes to crack. Usually right where the screw goes through them. Be sure not to over tighten the screws. Maybe you can clean out the light socket mounting hole or warm the rubber gasket a bit to get it to be more pliable.

I have taken the bumper off my 930 at least three times and have changed bulbs many times on the other ones and I never had a problem with this. Of course you can leave the gasket out but don't get it wet.

Make sure there isn't a lump of crud on the seating surfaces.
No, I would not run without the gasket.

Just replaced mine a couple weeks ago. You need the gasket. Just start one screw half way, then the other. Mine was easy. I replaced both of the lamp housings as one was cracked. Figure they will last another 25 years, hopefully I will!

I use a little dielectric grease on both items and wipe off the excess. It lubes the parts and usually helps seat them. Make sure there is no crud in that area.

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I'll give all options a try tomorrow. If something else arises I'll be sure to post it. The original lens had actually cracked and the connectors on the original had broke as well. I'm gonna need to buy another assembly because one looks newer and brighter than the other haha.
