A couple years back I saw an ad in Pano or Excellence for a replacement
targa top that was non folding for a 911. If anyone has information on
the company that has these tops available I would appreciate the lead.
There's also something called a "Carbrella" which folds up small and you can put across the open roof if you get caught somewhere without your top. Problem is it only works when you're parked.
I don't like to fold my top, so I thought about one of these to toss in the trunk if I'm out without the top.
Performance Products sells the Carbrella. Problem is that it can take upto 6 months to get one. I ordered one for my Targa and after 4 months of waiting, I cancled the order. The non folding hard top is made by a company called Sparetop. They sell on E-Bay for $299 plus $50 shipping.
there are 2 different iterations on the non-folding targa top. the one on ebay has had a 'mixed' history - do a search on pelican for more info. it is a direct replacement for the existing targa top but has had some fitment issues.
the second iteration is one that is being carried by pelican just recently, made by a guy who frequents that board. that one requires a cannibalization of your targa top (it mounts to the existing targa frame) or the purchase of a second targa frame.
Does the Carbrella just drape over the naked top or does it have a locking feature? I'm wondering how easy it is to steal or vandalize. My car does not have a proximity alarm.

I am curious about those issues as well as how well it stays on if the wind blows a decent amount!

I might investigate further for summer days it could be the trick or just eliminates dust from the interior when stored in the garage . Anybody here who can give us a running report?
I had one for my '84 targa. I included it with the car when I sold it in '95. I was not impressed with it. I thought it was a bit on the flimsy side, and it tended to sag in the middle (I don't know if it has been up-dated). I did not trust it when rain threatened, but it did keep dust and leaves out when the car was in the carport. I opened the site included in the previous post, and I would probably choose the interior cover. It may take a bit longer to install, but it might also do a better job out of the carport/garage. And less expensive as well.
