Default 1978 911sc Coupe LS1 Build

this build is not for the purists. but will be fun. stock ls1 so i dont destroy the 915 gearbox. car is for my wife. car has 17" turbo twist replicas with michelin pilots on car. will be doing a rear coilover conversion for handling purposes not weight. has a carrera tail and will put on 993 aero mirrors. according to info on the web the 3.0 pcar motor is 440lbs. the ls1 is 400lbs. so extra weight isnt an issue. taking out the stock pcar oil tank and lines and cooler is offset by the radiator and lines being put upfront. stock the ls1 makes 350hp around 330tq. using a kevlar clutch. griffin 3core aluminum radiator, meziere electric water pump, some kep pieces, some pieces i make myself since i own a machine shop. already have all the parts, lets get this started. building 4 ls v8 911's at once

Not a lot of love here for V8 conversions. The engine is a lot of what makes it a Porsche.

Same for twist wheels.

Building one makes you nuts, building four puts you in direct violation of the RL TOS.

What, specifically, is gained for "handling purposes" by replacing the rear torsion bars on one of these conversions? Considering the weight distribution will come a few points forward.

(Yes, I was peripherally involved in a couple of V8 911 conversions back in the Olden Days, like before aluminum heads.)

the only gain is adjustability.

So then it's not handing..........

Ride height? Which takes next to no time if you've got a non-frozen fastener car to work with. Not sure how you need to change it more than one time, if it doesn't come out to your satisfaction during Round One.

You move the height even 1/2", and you're at least 1/8" off on toe each side, anyway. So it's not like you're dodging the alignment.

it is for handling purposes, i make my own 7075 sway bars and adjustable links, my own 7075 strut braces, so more adjustability is key to me. again, not a track car.

no disrespect meant, but alot of cars including torsion bar 911's are not that adjustable or not at all. gaining adjustability with a quality nitrogen coilover gains handling. at least imho. thanks for the input tho.

been working on the little car for my wife a few days now. slowly gaining ground. car was originally gold, has since been painted blue. her choice, not mine. sadly shortly after the paint, it had a minor disagreement with a hailstorm, common in oklahoma.

wifes euro sc when we first got it. i put ghl ss headers and ghl ss mufflers on the euro carrera and the euro sc with cai on both. both otherwise were stock euro spec motors. the sc would outrun and out accelerate the carrera everytime.

my 930, eventually this got a built na 3.4 twin plug motor, with nickies, ge80 cams, electromotive dual ignition, knife edged crankshaft, boat tailed block internal windage, shuffle pinned block, 50pmo's, etc etc etc... it would put down turbo hp without the lag... but it took $$$. this was the car that led to the decision that the next car or cars would be under ls power plants.
