Default Garage Makeover

So, we moved last weekend to a nice little house near the coast. 40% of the size of our last house, but 30% more money= an answer I don't want to calculate.

But, the big thing was going from 3 car to 2 car. Since there is a nice sized shed that matches the house, I'm pulling it off. Some progress pics below. Tech content: in the end, I'll be able to service a rear-engined air-cooled Porsche. And it fits two Frauleins. I hope to be all unpacked and set up in the garage this weekend.

You still have tons of room, Ed. I don't have the least bit of sympathy for you.

Thanks all. The house is 1212 sq ft. We had 3000. There is quasi-RV parking on the side, so the garage could expand.

But, the yard is pretty nice, and good-sized, we will spend a lot of time outside. 70's in Summer, 60's in Winter for beach temps, as a rule. We really love this house, it is just a little down-sizing along the way. It was totally redone inside, so pretty much turnkey. Having said that, I'm sure sore from all the work we're doing.

Ed: I like your ramps for the lift. I made similar ones for my snap on lift. Nice house. of course you still have the guest house ie the sailboat

Ed,

Are your ramps for the lifts made of 2x4's on edge and glued together? They look great and very functional.

Toby- They are indeed 2X4's on edge-but through-bolted. I used 1/2" allthread cut to size, with fender washers under nuts. A couple of handles bolted on the ends too, for moving out of the way, if needed.

Beautiful house and that's a nice garage!

A lot of Southern California's real estate market is really tough -- no matter what's happening in the rest of the country.

If you're going to be there for a while, why not cut a pit for the lift? You could put a lip on it and have it covered with a sheet of 1" plywood when you're not using it. Never trip over it again, and always have it ready to use.

This is the last house I'm buying-so we're here to stay. I've thought about the pit, I may look at that a bit down the road.

Jack-We're in a "mini-boom" in San Diego, things are starting to move again. Our old house sold twice (first buyers really couldn't get their financing even though they had a pre-approved letter) in about a day. We spent 10 weeks looking for a new place, and perused a lot of places. Nice houses, fairly priced are going in a matter of days. There's a lot of junk and over-priced houses sitting as well. This house was only on the market two days, and they collected several offers. We were one of the two highest, and were countered with "give us your last and best offer". And here we are.

Funny, I lived on my sailboat for 4 years in the 90's, and had everything I needed. In the last 15 years, we had accumulated way too much stuff, so it is a little cleansing to be down-sizing.

(Don't move ECS Tuning to Calif today-it's pouring here now. But, we'll be back in the 60's next week)
