interesting story , thanks for sharing .. its always good when you have someone who sees so many different cars within the Marque. A wealth of knowledge.

if i were more mechanically inclined, i probably could make some money on the porsches but i don't have the knowledge, time or patience. i like to work on cosmetic stuff like headlights/interior/detailing - when i restored my 59 356 sunroof coupe i took it apart and put it back together after the paint and interior. 356 is a fun car to work on because its simple and can basically be taken apart with a screwdriver and pliers.
my 356 will be in my life until i drop dead and it goes to my son. i keep it in florida at my moms condo in a climate controlled garage where i get to use it 2-3x a year.
if you get a chance drive a 996 for the experience - many would be surprised of its performance and comfort - probably a sign of my age now but not having to find gears, waiting 30 minutes for the heater to work and really comfortable for long drives. they are solid and handle really well.

30 minutes for heat? my 3.2 has heat by the end of the driveway and my driveway is less than 50 feet long??
air cooled cars heaters are WAY faster than water
but I still get why someone would want a newer car...and if you have an older one (356) why not, you get your fix when needed

well my car sold to a guy who purchased my 1967 911 18 years ago - he now lives in germany.
it was actually a rocky sale experience as the buyer emailed me that he wanted to buy it(i had another buyer very interested so i told him it was sold), then emailed me the next day explaining he changed his mind and really wanted a cab or targa - then a week later emailed me back saying he wanted it(i had another buyer ready to go and told him it had sold)and sent a non-refundable deposit, then a few days later told me he might have issues getting it into germany because of the mods to the exhaust system.
by that point i sort of had enough of his wishy washy behavior and told him straight out that either he gives up his deposit and i sell the car to the next person in line or wire me the balance of the payment.
he sent me the money.
of course the drama couldn't stop there - after the deal was done, a couple of days later and wanting to make sure all avenues were covered, i explained that now the car is sold(i sent in the sellers report to the DMV)make sure you have it unsured because my insurance won't cover it now that it he is the legal owner - he had the car shipped the next day - i haven't heard from him since sending him emails last week of the photos of the car being loaded last week and the bill of lading - i asked him to email me back to confirm receiving those and he never responded
he must be pissed off or dead but its ashame the sale wasn't a bit smoother.
