Wow, clean enough to eat off in there. Was worried I'd find a rats next or some such, but it was almost spotless. Ya, a little oil at the breather, but no sign of anything to worry about.

Anyway, took out the blower and the ducting prepping for the heat backdate. Looks like I need to fabricate a 90* bend out of metal to do this right.

Anyone happen to have a wooden buck to form the metal on or have any other bright ideas?

and modify it a bit? I had to reshape the area to clear my dizzy but other than that a nice fit.

I've only driven my 911sc, would really like to drive an early car to see what the dif is. Let un know how the part fits around your dizzy. I used a BFA on mine then welded it back up....seam split. I eventually got a 1/8th in plus clearance.

Ya, gonna need a BFH. I can get the plastic fan shroud to line up ok across the back, but the spark plug wires are hitting. The dizzy is just to big.

not too bad tho...did you get that orange aircraft ducting too...that is a pretty tight bend thru the tin to your exchanger and the original stuff won't make that bend.

Ya, I had some sitting around from a failed shot at replacing my flapper boxes.

In my experience with thin sheet metal,(what little there is) the part needs to be well supported before attacking it with a BFH. Since it is an irregular shape and thin, the quickest and easiest route to me would be fabricating a saddle out of wood to support the part. Then using another piece of wood, a mandrel, carved by what ever method, is inserted into the part. It should be a little undersized. Pinch the saddle and mandrel together to hold the part. Instead of hammering the part I would try using a big c-clamp first. Good luck.

I decided to put the distributor back on and take a good hard look at just how far the metal needed to move. Basically I cut a semi-circle into a piece of 3/4" x 3" wood with a 3" hole saw and used it as a buck inside the part. Then I used one of my hammers I paid $1.00 for and beat the living snot out of it until it looked about right. Then I pounded some more. Eventually It fit. Got out the wire wheel in my drill and cleaned it up then threw some paint on it. Perfect. Just the way the factory should have made it.

The red lines are supposed to show where the crease used to be. Ya kinda have to get it around just one of the spark plug wires. Anyway, have a look.

My 500watt spotlight makes the dings and dents look fare worse than they look in person....swear.

Yup, looks like mine after the ball peen hammer attack. These are correct ducts for early 911's, the later turbo duct (large dizzy) would be a bolt on fit but no one makes them.
Once in place you can't see the 'modification'...it's hidden so looks fine.
