Default Price check on aisle 911: 1976 Turbo Carrera Tail

When I purchase my '87 Carrera 11 years ago, it came with the original engine lid as well as a '76 Turbo Carrera tail. The tail came from a guy who raced his '76 and had placed a much larger tail on his car. I too would like to put a larger tail on my '87 for track use and I'm wondering how far the sale of the Turbo Carrera tail would go towards the purchase of a RS 3.8 tail. While the Turbo Carrera tail is only worth what someone is willing to give for it, I'm wondering if anyone best guesstimate what the value of such a tail might be? Thank you for your comments.

Dan

P.S. If I did this correctly, there should be three associated pictures.

The tail on the red car is not a turbo tail. It is a whale tail. The turbo tail has a vertical side where the whale tail is round as it curves up to the tail.

Yeap,..that's not a Turbo tail, at all. Just a standard whale-tail....

BEST!

Without seeing the top, one cannot verify whether its the '76-'77 Turbo tail or not, by the extra grille on there,....

If you have the additional grille, its a very rare piece as it was only used for two years. Its also very useful for cars needing a transmission cooler!

Yes, a top view is a must. If not, it could be a Carrera 3.0, Turbo Carrera or Weissach tail. If it is a factory tail, my guess is it is $1k+.

Rats, the one photo that failed to attach was the money shot. If I've done this correctly this time, the top of the tail will be viable. The tail still has the original cooler as well as the shrouding to direct air to the fan. Given my time at the track, I'm pondering the RS 3.8 tail which is why I'm trying to get a feel for any demand on this tail to fund the other one. Thank you each for your comments.

MUCH better,....

Personally, I'd be asking $1500-$2K for it, depending on condition.

Turbo, probably with a/c. The larger second grill is usually associated with the a/c cars. Is the ducting still intact inside?

Turbo tails didn't go "tea tray" with upturned ends until the 3.3l was released. That does appear to be a genuine 3.0l Turbo Carrera decklid in nice condition. I would put it at $2000 or so.

I'm trying to think about my Weissach that I just sold and don't remember a stamping on the rubber.
