also i would be just generally nervous about ANY 74-77 and would just not have the same confidence i would about a 3.0 or a 3.2. So many of the issues on the 2.7 can be hidden even to a ppi. unless you have documented proof of engine dissasembly, time cert instalation etc i wouldnt even entertain it..

I don't think its the size of the pics. If i am not restricted as a newbie, or just a user , i think it is ipad related.....anyway, i passed on the 77 I test drove this past weekend. The search continues, and I am trying to stay within the 78-89 years, i think i really need 3 or 4 to be truly satisfied.....lol

The search continues, looked at a pretty solid '80. Got it up on the lift and bottom was solid, no visible signs of rst, but there was oil seepage around where the engine and gear box join. I know porsche's are notorious but this guy said it was normal and he wouldnt even consider it a leak.

..if you're looking for a 30 year old Porsche with no leak or seepage good luck .. there are a few .. but not many .. and if you let that deter you , you are in for a long search ..

That was what the seller said. I have found a few that claim no leaks, pics of the undersides look dry, on one a complete reseal was recently done, or is that a lot of bull?

The fuldas are german made tires. Maybe i spelled it wrong. I'll have to check.

So, basically, a little seepage should not be a deal breaker?

as I said there are totally dry ones.. but the good mAjority have some minor leaks or seepage. Everyone's comfort levels are different but i certainly wouldnt let that deter me from what is otherwise a solid car .. If it is where the gearbox meets the engine it is likely a seeping RMS seal that is always replaced during clutch change anyway .. no biggie for me .. may be end of the world for some.

Obvioulsy if you can get a car that has recently had a reseal or a top end the better off you are . Also may be difficult to get solid ones under a hundred K at a decent price.

That sounded more like Carrera money at 19K but i dont know the US market that well and will let others comment on that.

Remember, Rb, the '80 car is in the year range ('77-81) where you MUST have the PPI technician remove the lower rocker/valve covers and check for broken head studs!

have to disagree as long as the original 2.7 has had it's headstuds replaced. my 1977 911 was one of the nicest 911's i've owned - light and quick - 2.7 engine has a sweet sound too.

Would that still be the case with a documented rebuild from a reputable shop?

If you have in hand an invoice from said shop, and its parts list includes quantity 12 "cylinder head studs", or the applicable part number, such as "993 101 172 02", that should be OK.

Even better if you call the shop, and ask them if they remember the job. My shop had a copy of every invoice for every job we did on hand for my office staff to use regarding calls like this. My office manager would pull the invoice, usually in less than a couple of minutes, and then call me into the office to speak with the person asking about the car.
