1977 Porsche
3.2L H6 "out of a '85 911 Carrera
Comes with an extra hood lid-whale tail
New Leather, Premium Sound, New Suspension, Newer* Yokohama tires.
Current ownership going back 16 years.
I bid $14,500 but reserve wasnt met. Selling dealer contacted me to see if i wanted to increase my offer to present to the owner. They vave it listed for $20k
My concern is that it is less desirable due to non matching numbers and mixed years on the drivetrains. Will the 915 gear box handle the increased power? I know 77 had some improvements to the gearbox.
Any thoughts would be appreciated......Thanks

Unfortunately a 1977 Porsche will always be a 1977 Porsche no matter what engine they put in it ...
The fact that it's already been " bastardized" takes away some of the value and a 77 911 is not worth much more than the current reserve if it was a stock, good condition car !
For $20K you can find a well sorted late 80's Carrera that will have much more value than a Frankenstein 1977 car !
Just sayin ...
Cheers !

+1 for what phil said. For 18K you can get yourself a decent Carrera that has all matching numbers and no frills. I always worry when mods like this have been made. Although Porsche is unique in the fact they have not changed there 911 design philosophy in a long time there are still reasons to steer clear. I do think the 3.2 was bolted to a 915 for the 84,85, and possibly 86 model years so it can handle the power. If you could get the car for 14K I would do it but other than that hold out for a nice carrera to come your way it will happen soon enough.

I would disagree with that sentiment, a 77 is much lighter than a 87. The weak link in a 77 is the motor so buy putting a 3.2 motor in a 77 chassis they have vastly improved car. The early Carrera's had 915's the G50's came in 87. So if you want a factory car this is not your car but if want want a car with much better than stock performance than this is worth considering. A well done hot rod can sell for a heck of a lot of money.

This Targa?
EVILBAY
Carrera look... H4's, Carrera front valence & fogs, Carrera front bumper,Euro tail lights, 930S wheel, Not so sure about those red Fuchs! Tidy interior, missing screw covers on the door trim on top.
Just buy a 3.2 Carrera for that money

car looks nice overall. Probably gets around pretty good with a 3.2. With a good PPI it could be a really good buy at 15 but much higher and I'd be looking at SCs and Carreras

-1 to all the naysayers. Obviously a 915 can handle the power of the 3.2 since Porsche built them that way for several years before the G50 was introduced. My '74 has been running a 3.0L for going on 20 years with no issues related to the motor swap. More power + lighter weight = good times, IMO.

id say its not a bad car ( a 77 with 3.2) as long as all is sorted . I would just say 14K is about what i estimated before i even saw the bid or ask price so we are all in the same ballpark.. 20K ? no way ..

Where and maybe more importantly WHY has this guy been hiding under a rock ? I mean, EBAY has been around for what...a decade and this guy has only had 1 transaction through EBAY ? To me, thats the biggest red flag of all. As my audit professor used to say....'Something smells funny here'
I'd do some serious research on anyone before buying ebay if they have little/no activity.
