Outstanding! Don't worry about the noise...they are noisy. A little valve clatter, especially when you have your first start ears on, is ok too.
Every pro wrench I've heard said they'd rather hear a bit of clatter than none at all.
Good job.

Thanks guys.
Late night tonight. I've been putting all the other stuff back together. sway bars, shocks, rear bodywork, etc...
Just a few more things to do like headlights and engine lid, then she's all put back together and I can get out and drive her.

I finished off this morning with headlights, taillights, and engine lid.
Took her for the first drive and if feels great. There is a very slight hesitation at 2800 RPM, but it shifts like a dream with the Delvac in the tranny. Even with the tight engine, I can feel the difference that the lighter KEP pressure plate makes. You need to be a little more mindful of the throttle at start off, and it revs nice and quick.

Ian the engine looks fantastic. Nothing like having a fresh motor just in time for the driving season. Definitely get some pics up of the entire car with the fresh engine showing!

While I was doing the motor there were several items that I wanted to replace with new ones. One of the most obvious being the fuel lines. I replaced both engine lines with new genuine Porsche parts while assembling the intake.
i got the motor going, and on Friday before heading to Hershey, I went for a nice drive to make sure everything felt OK before committing to the 6 hour drive stateside. Everything was great, until.......
I pulled back into the garage to snug up a piece of heating duct that came loose during my drive and to pack a tool kit. I noticed the smell of gas, but couldn't locate a source. As soon as I started the car to pull out, POW, the main fuel line ruptured and spewed about a quart of gas over my motor and onto my garage floor.
I'm sorely disappointed in the quality of this new Porsche fuel line.
So, it was off to Hershey in my wife's Z3 instead. :-(

Wow, that's pretty serious stuff. I wonder if that was NOS?
Good advertisement for Zim's, who many of us have used to remanufacture these lines over the years. Obviously, nothing to be gained by going to Porsche for new bits.

99% of the time with these cars, going with genuine parts from the dealer guarantees better quality. Seeing this happen with a fuel line is very surprising. These fuel lines were known only to be a problem with age (and exposure to fuel). Even if this part was NOS, it still surprises me that it should be so deficient.
Where did you buy it from?
FWIW, I went with quality SAE 30R9 hose and Oetiker stainless steel clamps and it has worked perfectly (I had pressure tested the clamps to 150 psi). I also like that solution because it is easy to visually inspect the connection (not hidden under a crimp) and it is very reasonable to periodically “rebuild” the hoses every few years.
