Default 1405 Miles in 72 Hours. How Much Oil Did I Burn???

Just returned home from an EPIC road trip in the 911. Basically Los Angeles to Salt Lake City and back. Windows down, no radio, no A/C, working DME on loan from Rusnak, 80/100 watt H4 headlights, and the cruise control set a smidge past 80. Fantastically fun open road road trip. At 4:00 this morning the roads in Utah were empty.

When we left I took a good long look at the where the oil was at on the dipstick once I had it good and hot. Now back at home I checked it before I even put it away and the oil is less than a half inch lower. How much is that? Seems like I must have used very little.

Did I tell you how much I love this car? This thing is awesome. Was nervous about how the front end was gonna do. Had the tires balanced the day before we left and there isn't the slightest hint of a shimmy.

Oh, and my droid broke so I don't have a single picture.

OK, so it's got a radio, but I was listening to the music of the motor and the open road.

The freaky part is that the bottom of the case looked dry after 700 miles. My guess is that there is a puddle the size of The Great Salt Lake in the shed right now.

These engines love to be run. I think you did her a great favor. And yourself too, after all the work you put in!

Doug, did you get your intermittent no-start issue worked out?

I *think* about 1/2" on the dipstick = about 1 qt.

We bypassed the issue with a loaner computer from Rusnak.

At this point it looks like the injectors were not getting a signal. Will be following the schematic around the board to see if there is any obvious cold joints or suspicious components involved with the injectors. I've looked and looked and looked before, but never really followed the path from the injector wires backwards on the board.

Yes, that is right. You want it between the lines, don't fill it to the top line.

If that is right, I'll take it.

I was nervous at first, going that far from home....but once passed Vegas, I knew she was good for the long haul.

What an absolute blast of a ride.

Thank you everyone that has helped me along the last several months.

Why would 1400 mile trip seem like a lot on a car capable going 100's of thousands of miles with no issues?

Doug, there are many guys knowledgeable on the Motronic system that should be able to help you sort this out.

Nice! 1/2" on the stick seems like it would be way less than a qt.

Because just last week the motor was on the shed floor, the muffler was hanging from a tree in the back yard, the headlights were in the trunk, every light bulb was replaced, the tires were off, the rear rotors, calipers, pads, shoes, and sensors were off, the tie rods were frozen in place, The air filter was cleaned, the DME was swapped again, the fan belt was now 3 shims further in, there was 11 quarts of fresh oil, a new Mahle oil filter, finally got around to removing the front oil cooler and installing the foam around the rock-guard, I couldn't single out the one valve that seemed to be tapping louder than the others, she got smoged the day before we left, and she hadn't been around the block in 9 months .....what could possibly go wrong?

Ouch. Matt wins by 100 miles...

Sounds like an awesome run Ted, however, you will get the haha
My 3.2 manual, clearly explains how to interpret the dip stick reading. I do not have it handy, so I can't tell you. Check yours.

Radio, who needs an fn radio!!!!!!!

Who the heck is Ted?

I'm sure DOUG knows how to check his oil, he was just trying to equate what 1/2" in level on the stick equates to in volume. There is no calibration on the stick, simply a low and a high mark. On mine, about 1qt seperates the two, hence my thought that 1/2" is less.
