Default I forgot to share pics - engine back in, maintenance done.

I figured I'd show the pics since I finally have some. I know I shared pics when I FIRST got the car. Although I have to thank my friend (who is also on this forum) for the assistance in doing the maintenance, and for all his help. He's owned a few 911s so he helped me through my first engine out maintenance.

Having no A/C now makes a HUGE amount of space back there! WOW!

I'm diggin' it! I never used A/C, hate A/C so this works out fine for me.

Here is the engine bay when I first got her.

I decided to clean things up, detail the engine bay.. and eventually powdercoat the fan and do things the way I wanted them. Local place did a fantastic job with the powdercoating.

Here is what came out of the heating system...

Before the powdercoating

After the powdercoating and detailing.

Engine before work.

Engine out after work

Engine back in today!

It actually was not bad... AT ALL!

I am glad, however, that my friend did help me. He's the same nice guy that I bought my 914 from, it was nice to have a knowledgeable person who is familiar with the cars help me out. All in all I think the hardest part was really just disconnecting everything and double checking to make sure I did not forget anything as we lowered it down. Aside from that it was really quite easy.

I think the next time around it will go MUCH faster. Wasn't bad at all!

Few things I learned....

- Assume any bushings will be bad, they are cheap parts, buy them, get all the simple crap ordered and there BEFORE you decide to put the engine back in. It's a pain to wait on a $2-3 part.

- BE PATIENT. It's not a difficult job to do... just be patient, take your time and don't get in a hurry... once you think you're ready to drop the engine, go over ALL the things you need to take it out, make a checklist, make sure it's all good. Then do a visual check, you sure? Make sure one more time.

- Have a guide bar ready when it's time to put the engine back in. It'll help a lot when lining things up.

- Gaskets... nuts.. washers... hardware... you're already working on it out of the engine, may as well!

- Hoses, vacuum especially, don't assume the ones you just replaced are good, there MIGHT be a few hoses hiding you didn't see before!

Anyway... not bad at all. Thanks for all the members who lent me advice, thanks to my buddy who helped, and thank god I'm not working on a 944... seriously easy cheese to do a clutch on a 911 than a 944 (no joke!).

Looks great!!! I have recently scanned a bunch of pictures myself from an engine rebuild several years ago. Would there be any interest?

I'm in the middle of doing the same thing, + a clutch, so thanks for the inspiration.

Thanks!

I've been trying to read up on the subject... supposedly it heats more efficiently and works better or am I reading that wrong? I definitely would appreciate a more simple and efficient heating system.

Very nice and clean. I am not sure, but does the airbox need a pop-off valve?
