Post speedometer question

i recently have gotten a loud buzzing noise from, what seems to be my speedometer. could it be the cable, do i even have a cable, or could it be the speedometer

From Hotrod's oil pressure post, I see that he has a '73 911T.

To answer your question, YES, you have a speedometer cable, and YES, it sounds like the cable housing has worn or has rust/corrosion in it and the cable is having trouble spinning freely.

Certainly take it out and check it out for yourself, it is not uncommon for these to wear after several years.

sorry about that. i udated my profile. just woundered how hard it is to get to the back of the speedometer to undue the cable. should i pull the speedometer out before trying to undue the cable or reach up behind it and try to get to it.<a href="http://community.wetv.net/ROO-PAUL/Pauls55Willys" target="_blank">web page</a>

Definitely, pull your speedo out of the dash.

Do this with a piece of leather and a small flatblade screwdriver so as to NOT scratch your gauge bezel.

You will have access to your speedo cable from there.

so your saying that im able to pry the speedo out the front, do i have to go from behind and disconnect any wirs first, or after i pull the ubit will i then be able to disconnect everything.

Nope, pull it out from the front, the wires have enough slack to be disconnected afterwards...truuuuuust me on this one!

thanks jeff. ill give it a try this thurs. the wife,s been driving it to and from work lately, it was begging to be driven, says it does it sometimes, but im sure if i can get it out i can oil the cable. the 924 the wife has says that i can pull the guages out, and i can but the wires are way to short to do anything, but then thats a 924.
