There is a credible DIY process posted here on RL using bike brake cables to clear the ports on VRAM cars, that is interesting.
There is also an old thread over on the RL 993 forum where a member used a bass guitar string on a hand drill to clear the ports. Not sure if it was the E,A,D or G string, though.

I'm not sure that I would let a check engine light issue be a deal breaker. SAI is simple and OBD11 has a lot of advantages.

I agree. I'm weighing both sides of the issue. The fact that there seems to be a straight forward roto-rooter procedure takes some of the "worry" out of SAI.

She's 2650 with the boat anchor rollbar in place and 1/2 a tank. So, right at the 10lbs/HP mark.
