Default Attended my first show & shine event... AND WON!

I have always wanted to try my hand at a "councours" like event. I am lucky to own a car that is in really, really, really good condition and I am also lucky (!?!) to be fairly ****-retentive about how I take care of it. I figured these things would go hand-in-hand.

On Sunday I decided I finally needed to attend some event where others would judge my car. The event was the local PCA chapter's (PWNR) annual "Show and Shine" event near Carnation, WA.

The event was billed as a casual event but there would be some judging. I figured it would be a good chance to get some feedback on my car so I would know what I needed to work on if I ever entered a "real" councours.

I showed up after spending about two hours vacuuming the interior, applying a coat of One Grand Blitz Wax, applying petroleum jelly to the Fuchs, and (finally) getting some old dried on wax off the Carrera emblem of my 1988 Venetian Blue coupe.

It was a very casual affair and after about an hour there were 20-30 cars there ranging from 914-6 that I would give my left nut for to a gaudy, but totally bitchen 2010 Carrera GT3 RS.

We had tickets to the Sounders match that evening so I had to leave by 5:30pm. The show was supposed to wrap up at 6:00pm. So at about 5:30 I told the very friendly organizer "Thank you for the hotdog. I had a great time, but I have to take off."

He said "Oh, you can't leave. You need to stay."

Me: "Uh, no, I really do have to get going."

Him: "No, you need to stay. Really."

Me: "But..."

Him (whispering): "You're getting some hardware, so you need to stay..."

Me: "Oh... Oh! Well in that case..."

Turns out I won! They gave out 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place and I got 1st place for the whole thing.

Here are some photos from the event:

The winners. That's me in the middle. The car on the left is a 2010 (I think) Carrera that got 2nd place. The car on the right is a gorgeous 2010 Cayman with a very cool metallic brown paint.

My car:

Here's my car on display:

A sampling of the cars. Note the bling-tastic yellow Cayman.

GT3 RS - Wow.

A drool-worthy 914-6. Someday I will own one of these.

And last but not least my "hardware"

Congrats...Best In Show is something to be proud of. I keep going because of the people I meet but I never can understand how someone with a 2010 can win anything. Come on, how dirty could it have gotten this year!

X038F, am I happy for you ? Absolutely yes. Am I surprised that your VB coupe won on it's debut ? Absolutely not. Better make some serious room in your home for many more hardware to come. Thank you for sharing those pics with us.

Only for the computer nerds in the crowd I guess (myself included):

038f in hexadecimal = 911 in decimal

Very clever

+2! I was just racing to post this very comment. Can someone please explain how a new car can place in a concourse?

x038F - Congratulations on your win! To put it in 1980's Ferris Bueller terms - "your (911) is so choice!"

Enjoy it!

Congrats!

I know the feeling, I took a 1st in 2007 at the PCA Concours in DFW with my 928. My first and last car show. Too much work!
