Default Bentley manuel

My 82 SC came with "Hayne's" and "101 projects for your porsche" manuels. I have heard good things about the Bentley manuel and debating whether to purchase it or not. I will not be doing any major engine or tranny work, just smaller stuff. My first project will be to improve the shifting so a new shift coupler and bushings and possibly an OEM short shift kit at the same time. I just read Ivangene's thread on the bushings but still not sure on the adjustment. Maybe it's just a matter of seeing and doing.

get it .. even if you are not contemplating doing any work it is great as reference material ... the shift adjustment is tricky and akes a bit of practice. Pete immermann has posted a few times over the years the exact procedure , you can search based on him .

Good luck

The bushings and coupler, or specifically, new coupler bushings are a must. The short shift....not so much. I'm sure there's something else you can spend that money on.

Cheapest ($30 or so) upgrade you'll do on your car.

Only a few Mojitos. I'd just noticed this thread as it wasn't that far down the page. 4 days old or so? It seemed that the comment he made about the short shifter as an option to "improve" shifting warranted a response as it hadn't been addressed further.

just bustin ya

yea, I have factory SS and its not like it makes a world of differance...Wevo shifter would be great but at that price i will have to wait... plus the shifting is what I like to think of as a timed event anyhow so shorter through is really somewhat irrelivent

going for beer now ---- just (1) I promise

Just picked up the car today after Provincial inspection. Common leaks, tie rods and steering column replaced to pass inspection...oh..I also through some new rubber on it. Car is a little dusty so once I clean her up I'll post some pics. Eurasia did a nice job. This is my first Porsche and it is very fun to drive. My wife thinks it's too loud (fabspeed exhaust) and won't ride in it....sucks for her! My son (8) and I went for a ride and had some fun and most likely continue the funness tomorrow.

Sam

The hunting issue I was having is greatly reduced once the car is warmed up. The shifting is ok...not great.... forget about throwing it in first..... let it go into second and third when it wants to and fourth and reverse is no problem. I haven't used fifth yet.

First real project is the coupler and the shortshift. Any Suggestions on brand? I was originally leaning to OEM but have read pretty good feedback on Wevo.

I'll say it again, I'd think twice before looking at a short shift. You are best suited bringing the shift mechanism up to specs and make sure it is adjusted. The added force required to shift a short throw trans can bring an earlier demise to any weak components inside.

There are three good shifter improvements, one fairly cheap and two more expensive:

Seine Systems- Economical
Wevo and Rennshift- More Expensive

I've got the Seine, and it gives me what I need-isolation of the 3-4 plane to avoid a mis-shift. It is a good mod.

Both the Wevo and Rennshift bits are new shifter assemblies and will do the same thing. Both are well made.
