Default Misc things - shift coupler and oil change

OK so the paperwork with my car said it had Brad Penn 20/50 in it.. no way... not green...

I was a little low on oil so opted for a change - 2 things I noted
1: sone of a biatch that oil comes out FAST !! - my 996 was fast, but this is unreal, the top section of my catch pan overfilled and I made a fricken mess (about 2-3 cups but thats alot when its on the floor)
2: 51ft/lbs for drain plug to case... really??? I got scared and stopped about 35-40... the tank at 31 was no problem.... if it seeps I will go tighter, but good lord!

next I said I made new bushing/bearings for the shifter - turns out as i suspected I did not re-invent that wheel but here are the pics... I will pull my wevo and re-turn or re-sell it $160 and you can have it... its a week old and has under 400 miles on it

and i know Ed... i am not posting this FS... just saying i WILL POST IT

installed the old shift coupler with the new home made bushings....its never shifted better - I had my kids help me center the shifter in the 5/R gate with a tape measure and then once we knew that my other son pulled it towards the drivers seat while holding it in center as measured... I rotated everything at the coupler and we nailed it home... test drove and its great!

I will try and return the wevo otherwise it will be in the FS section

When I got my car, the clutch was heavy and the pedals squeaked...now it's soft as butter and no squeaks after new pedal bushings.

Swepco really does improve the shift action..I just wait for it to warm up, and shifting's darn near perfect....for a 915!

Now about that low idle...and the central locking system that just quit...

I call this car my "second wife" because it always demands my attention!

LOL
My wife has been dressing up a bit lately. When I asked about it she said she was trying to be more like the Porsche so she could get some of my time - WHOOPPS!

WOW nice job on the bushing .. looks great... so you got your first and hopefully last Exon Valdez spill ? you have now been indoctrinated .. as some one put it so well , it comes out like a cow pissing on a flat rock ..
BTW the oil has a greenish tinge to it .. it is not like green beer on st patricks or anything ..

It's always fun watching someone change the oil on these air-cooled 911s for the first time, from a good distance.

PP won't want it back if used, and they have a restock fee. I'd certainly not want a used part back that wasn't defective. You're better off selling.

that is my thought too - I read 20% restock fee CAN be assessed - so I am guessing I am out on this lesson... sure it will sell fast for a reduced price, its a great part with great reputation and was litterally used less than 300 miles - still installing it, the clamp on the shifter side leaves a little mark in the gold anodizing

Yes - alignment is part of it - I learned from the 4th time how to get it better. Still not fully understanding how it all works but getting there.

The stock bushings with that slot puts all the twist action on a small cross section of the 12mm pin. In my opinion that will cause rapid wear and a sloppy feel because of the rubbery plastic they use.

Good idea on the wevo loaner while I make free parts - guess I will make up in volume what I loose in piece price

LoL

Bushings are bushings, nothing wrong with selling those, IMO.
