I posted before about my 911 I just picked up. I was wondering if anyone can tell me about the car. Here is the VIN: WP0ZZZ91ZFS140469. I know it is a ROW by the trans cooler, small bumperettes, side turn signals, and the head lights. I picked the car up cheap and plan of having fun with it. I have it all serviced ready to go. I have to buff the paint and detail the car. I plan of a full resto this winter but for now I am going to cruise the summer. Thanks.

In 1985 there was a very high traffic into the country of grey market cars. You got it cheap because everyone in front of you got it cheap as well. While Porsche in America was charging about $35,000 for that car from Americans in 1985 the exchange rate with the DM in 1985 shifted heavily into our favor in America, making the car a deal and a half at around $22,000. The question is whether all the proper importation rules (DOT, EPA) were followed.
I got the car for 2K. The previous owner paind 12K. I am not sure what was done to the car. They did weld a converter in. I also believe the turn signals were changed. I am not sure what else was done for DOT/EPA. I will try to dig further into it's history. Either way for 2K I am having a blast.

Deal of the year!
For $110, Porsche North America will send you a Certificate of Authenticity telling you when your car was made and with what options. It'll also give you your transmission and engine numbers. A lot of folks claim they're full of mistakes, but they're fun to have.
The order form is buried deep within the Porsche web site,

Yeah, in my case the PO spent the money for me...still, I'm such a sucker for stuff like that, I would have popped for it anyway (the Certificate, that is...)

Belive me .. buy that 8.5 by 11 from Porsche for 110 bucks and you are definitely getting %$^%ed Originally Posted by ivangene

I got all the paperwork from the old owner. The carfax he had on stated the car was first registered in TX 11/18/1985 with 175 miles on it. So far that is all I know.

2K for a running Euro Carrera. That is totally awesome. Enjoy it! The only problem with owning a Porsche is that one is never enough so watch out.
Thanks guys. I plan on keeping the car for some time. I would like to restore the car this winter. It is a blast to drive. As long as I don't get a ton of tickets I will have the car for awhile.
Not sure what you mean by "full restoration", but if you get into the car in any serious manner, you'll spend several times your purchase amount, which will get you more in line with the rest of us. And that is without getting into the engine!
Enjoy it.
Enjoy it.
I plan on pulling the engine and trans and going through both and a full repaint. I am a Service manager and Master tech and have built quite a few cars. I paint all my own cars and have fun doing so. So the only cost for me is parts.
