Well, I'll let you know in a few months! Displacement is always a good upgrade on 911 motors, and since pricing was the same, I opted for the higher compression as well. I have to jump through hoops for smog anyway.
I think there are some who have done 3.4 with no dual spark, but that seems too borderline for our warm climate and fuel. The 10.5:1 definitely mandates this.
I'm probably going to have my intake tweaked a bit to ensure better airflow, since I'lll have a bigger "pump" now. This should help round out the cams and headers already on the car.
Sorry...silly me, I misread your first post the first time and thought you went with the plain Mahles.
So are you going to go with the 964 cam, or stock? I imagine that you probably already ran all of this by Dieter Inzenhofer.
My costs will be way skewed on this. I spent $10K rebuilding the entire engine 2 years ago. That included lots of new parts and machining. As I mentioned to begin with, I did reuse my stock pistons and cyls.
I'm going to spend 3/4 of the original rebuild amount on this upgrade project. That would include things like extrude hone on the intake, new custom chip and retune based on dyno data, injectors cleaned and tested, the new ignition system, new wires caps and rotors, new clutch disc, etc.
Suspension? Lots! Elephant poly-b bushings and monoballs front and rear, 22/29 t-bars, custom-valved Bilsteins, raised spindles and some re-geometry of the strut, strut brace.
rusnak: I do have DC19 cams which have a bit more lift than a "964" cam.

I am sure there will be more than myself interested in the costs to help justify the rebuild to our spouses.
I don't want to hijack this thread, but what have you done to your suspension ?
SWEEEEEEET. Twin-plug benefits abound with the compression and 3.4L. Extrudehone was great on a turbo track car, but I will be interested in the effects found in Ruby.
Ed are you planning on having Russel burn you a new profile for the multi-board or are you going with SW? I'm curious about those hoops you are jumping through for the CA smog *****. Are you planning on creating a map on the multi-board specifically for smog?
What about fuel requirements with the 10.5:1? I know you like to mix up your own cocktails but will this setup work on CA's crappy 91 octane gasahol?
BTW my wife doesn't mind when I spend money on my 911. She just smiles and says "great! I guess now I can buy the ____________ that I've been wanting!" So I have to budget the punitive spending on top of the 911 budget.
Looking forward to this build; thanks for sharing!
My wife comes home after shopping with a new pair of shoes and won't shi*can the boxes. So we have cole-hahn(sp?) boxes all over the house. Maybe she would understand if I had Mahle, Andial, electromotive, Racers Edge boxes all over the house...somehow I doubt it.
Keep it coming Ed, I'm enjoying this.
Sell it all Ed. Slash prices, give'um T-shirts and pocket calenders, make over the top claims...Ruby needs it...hell, I need it. I'm living vicariously here, spending your money like mad in my head. Extrude hone your wallet and go nuts dude.
