Default Ruby's New Years ReVolution

I bit the bullet today and bought some 98MM (3.4L) 10.5:1 Mahle P's and C's today and a splitter for the Motronic to take her to twin plug.

I rebuilt the engine a couple of years ago keeping the stock P's and C's as they were fine-and I needed to keep my budget at the number I had in mind. She runs great, but I have a slight leak between the head and cam tower at #3. I've not been motivated to fix this as I end up having to tear down the top end on the LH cylinder bank, and she is so much fun to drive!

So, I decided to go to these new P's and C's for a bit more power, which will motivate me to move on this. I'll probably look to start late in Feb or early March. I'm going to strip her down to the case-no need to split it-clean, inspect and assemble. I need to get a 964 distributor and a couple of other bits and then get to it. Part of this project will involve some dyno tuning as well. This should be fun, and I'll keep a thread going when I commence.

I love the look of the valve pockets

Big rewards on the back end of that project.

The funny thing is I was actually going to spread the parts over a few months to not push it with the "CFO", but Andial had a set in stock and I was able to put a package together that took some of the pain away so I did it. I told her last night that Ruby had been bad and gone shopping-and used her own "but I saved money" line. When she asked how much and I told her, she said "oh, I thought it would have been more".

So, any pangs of guilt went away with my cigar smoke.

Trust me, I've got the numbers worked out. This refresh will be expen$ive. This was the big chunk, and was the speedbump I was figuring would gather some attention. All for naught...she really is a great girl.

Ed...I am thinking about Mahles as well. What is your opinion on going w Mahle Sport and punching her out to 3.4 and 10.5 to 1? You can do that easily w the dual spark arrangement.

Well, I'll let you know in a few months! Displacement is always a good upgrade on 911 motors, and since pricing was the same, I opted for the higher compression as well. I have to jump through hoops for smog anyway.

I think there are some who have done 3.4 with no dual spark, but that seems too borderline for our warm climate and fuel. The 10.5:1 definitely mandates this.

I'm probably going to have my intake tweaked a bit to ensure better airflow, since I'lll have a bigger "pump" now. This should help round out the cams and headers already on the car.

Ed:

Could you include prices with you rebuild.

I am sure there will be more than myself interested in the costs to help justify the rebuild to our spouses.

I don't want to hijack this thread, but what have you done to your suspension ?

Thanks.

Jonny A
