Ruby's New Years ReVolution

Thanks Whalebird, build was not cheap, however if I had my time again I would have split the case and gone the 3.5 JE/Nickies/Twinplug route.
I didn't get the 'buy-in' from the builder however - as he had done a few Mahle 3.4s before and would stand by the components I used; a tried and tested street engine, if you will. He has PMO'd 2 of his 3.4 builds, both dyno'd in the low 290's!
Not complaining though, i love it.

Twin plug, PMOs and relevant cams opens up a whole new playing field. I have heard inconsistent results with JE p & c. Mahle is the only way to go. Also, when you split the case, the windage modifications are a must at this build-level - free power.

My 964 distributor, wires and coils were delivered today.
Now, the biggest expenditures left are the gaskets and the new Chip.
FWIW-JE's and Mahle cylinders used together seem to be the problem. Different expansion rates mean piston slap and resultant wear in cold engines. When coupled with Nickies from LN Engineering, the metals are more compatible, and I know a few builders who give them thumbs up. Having said that, I got my new Mahles for the same cost as JE's/Nickies, so it was a no-brainer.

Talked to a P shop owner yesterday who echoed concerns about JE's used with stock cylinders that have been punched out and replated. He tore down a low mileage $16k "rebuild" that was piston slapping when cold. Found some odd wear patterns upon inspection. Don't know about the JE/Nickies combo; maybe ok? For a street motor that I would expect to get many miles from, I would be afraid to experiment with my hard earned cash.

Well, I suppose spending money is progress......here are some goodies I rec'd last week. 964 dizzy, two Jacobs coils and a set of Magnecors, a package deal. I don't ever want to hear anyone here complain about how much spark plug wires cost. Maybe I'll start on 2/20.

Two birds with one stone today. Took a 60 mile drive up to Supertec in Fallbrook to pick up a Viton gasket set, RSR plug wire holders and some sealants I needed. Beautiful day in SoCal for a drive and got some of my last goodies.
