Default Window Outer Seal Length

Does your outer window seal (squeegee) run the entire length of the window or is there about an inch gap? Mine has some play close to an inch so you can slide it back and forth.

I washed the car yesterday and this morning when I rolled down the window, it was still wet.

During the last visit to the mechanic they had to replace the window regulator and they said the window support bar was rusting.

Does this seal keep the water from entering the door? Should it run the entire length of the window? I was thinking about ordering new ones but not if there going to be the same length.

mine did shrink over time and my replacenment ones covered the whole window. I found them really easy to replace having a targa too . Not sure how dificult it is in the coupe as I don't have the whole window surround.

Here are a couple of pics of what mine look like. I'm surprised that they would shrink that much.

Thanks theiceman,
Amazing, isn't it? And that's on a car that spends most of its time garaged...either that or the seals come in different lengths and I have the wrong one. On to pelican to order replacements.

I just ordered up all new seals for my '84 Cab while doing the soft top replacement this month. I should have them Friday if I can get the Fedex driver to leave them...

Iceman,

Just checked the seals out on my Targa and they are in almost new condition

PO had them replaced along with the door seals.

I also discovered that the door-stay reinforcement kit is already installed,

wow great news .. I had to put on the door stay enforcement kit last year as my door was torn when i got it. I got to it just in time. That is one project i would recomend for absolutely everyone with cars of our generation. MAkes you wonder about the seals for the window , easy to do yet so many need doing

Next seal that might need to be replaced is the rear Targa Window.

It is not leaking but is getting hard in spots.
