For SCCA track events, is a Targa considered an open top car? [i.e. needs roll bars].

I'd think no, it isn't in PCA or POC as long as the top is on.

My 2 cents with wind noise and squeaks on a Targa...

I have minimal wind noise with my rebuilt Targa top. Make sure the leading edge of the top (Stitched vinyl edge) is angled down into the top front portion of the Targa frame above the windshield. If the vinyl top material is above the metal (painted) edge, you're going to have lots of wind noise. I've had my top rebuilt twice (attempted break in for the second repair) and my upholstery guy told me it that the leading edge needs to angle down for minimal wind noise. Comparing the old top with the newly rebuilt top, he is absolutely correct. I have seen many pictures of Targa tops with that vinyl edge protruding above the metal frame above the windshield. That creates leaks and lots of noise. BTW, the front seal is original and in great shape and the side seals are intact as well.

As far as squeaks go, I use 3M silicon paste on the rubber Targa seals (Not the side seals) and pins. I know this has been mentioned before, but I think it's a useful tip!

I replaced my front seal from Dan at carsinc and it made a huge difference in how the front of the top sat and wind noise.

3M Silcon paste can I get that from Pep Boys or Autozone? I used the S2000 lube everytime after washings, is the 3M semi permanent?

dow corning is the "conditioner . But the seals have to be glued on to the car so I am wondering what people are using. I don't like weatherstrip adhesive as it is balck and hardens to much. I want soemthing that stays tacky forever.
