I've got no patience for jerks in my off-hours, I get enough grief from some customers during the day. Quite similar circumstances: Egotistical maniacs that think they know it all.

I do agree that the clerks don't know much other than selling mobile phones. I like to see when their hopes fall in the gutter because you just needed a $.50 pack of resistors. There goes their hopes of commission.

Well, this is all too strange. I have an older Sirius radio that I thought was going to be melted down for recycling. All this talk of Radio Shack got me thinking....so I took it in to one of the stores near me. Guess what, it was on their repair list too. It's being UPS'd to their repair depot, and I'm supposed to have it back in a week. They estimated it at the same $35 + $5 S&H. Radio Shack has a new image in my eyes!

Automotive type electronics I have repaired in the past , most times for me at least it has been broken solder joints , connections or lifted traces. I have fixed 90% of them. Having an IC clamp or some other type oh heatsink is always a safe way to work. Having a powerfull light and magnifying glass, or a lit up maginifying ring is also good.

Seems like you'd have better luck with this on the 928 forum....

"I realize it is from a 928, however it will work on several 911 models....note part # is 911.617.227.00"
He's absolutely correct!
The 911 cruise control is the same one used on the 928.
Another source for cruise control ECUs is 928 International, a Rennlist sponsor.

I don't know if it's ok or not to promote cross-board communication, but Tim Polzin of Alberta, Canada has done some great work, which he posted on Pelican for free.
It seems to me that if you-know-who did some no B.S. posting and were helpful, then word of mouth would be positive and would be the best advertising one could have.
Tim's threads, and I apologize in advance if this is not one of those things we are supposed to do:

Wow, i thought we had to be nice on this list. I did have some concerns with my Climate Control Unit and had some advice from fellow rennlisters and then got quotes for $2000 for a new unit on my 964, then $1000.00 for a rebuild from Ottos Venice, then an price for $900 cdn and then bumped into my cash register repairman who happened to be an auto electronics whiz in his past life. Short story long, we opened it up and found about 12 cold solders and another 6 or so well on its way. $2.00 worth of solder and a Tim Hortons and it has worked for over a year and a half. I consider that lucky. Can anyone tell me if the 964 Cruise Control unit is the same as the earlier units?
Iceman, can you fix for me???? Please pm! (we're practically neighbors)
